Tom Tancredo has scheduled a press conference in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon to make a "major announcement regarding the campaign," according to a media advisory his campaign sent out today.
Asked whether Tancredo intended to drop out of the race, his congressional spokesman, TQ Houlton, said he didn't know. But Houlton didn't affirm that Tancredo was staying in and directed calls to the campaign.
A campaign spokesman didn't immediately reply to an email or voice mail.
Tancredo will appear at the Des Moines Marriott tomorrow at 2:00 Central, according to the advisory.
Despite the fervor Iowa Republicans have over Tancredo's pet issue, immigration, the Colorado congressman has not seen a commensurate bump in the polls. And even though he's run a couple of provocative ads warning about the security threat of illegal immigration, his numbers have remained in the low single-digits.
Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.
A source close to King said they knew of the press conference for tomorrow but didn't know what Tancredo would announce.
I don’t even know who Steve King is. If he is a celebrity or one of those rich fellas; so what. This is what is wrong with the elections today.
It’s all about who can appear to be a good candidate and what endorsements they can get which mean nothing anymore.
Later we find out there is no meat to the pie.
Oh Jeez.
I know. But one thing I have in the back of my mind is how even a brokered convention can show America how serious we are about electing a good President over the Democrats. Something worth considering.
Now, if I had that Montecristo (I smoked my last a few months ago), and it wasn't 180 with 6+" of snow on the ground, I could enjoy one along with a couple fingers of Elijah.
It would be a good chance for Duncan to get ahead of the crowd and get some great publicity. Hunter/Tancredo ‘08!
Possibly, but I think this thing is going to move wickedly fast after the first few, and is not going the way anyone thinks right now.
Voters have their own ideas.
A Congressional Representative (R) from Iowa, who's a buddy of Tancredo's and tough on immigration. His was a great endorsement Fred Thompson picked up this week. and Fred alluded later that "there was more to come" or words to that effect. Now, we may be seeing what he was alluding to.
I'd say there's some meat to the pie.
Tanc is a great conservative but I’m hoping he gets out simply because Hunter is just as great with some pluses.
“I wish you all would quit alluding to the fact that you want the best candidates to quit. “
Right....that’s no way to pick a candidate! Let’s settle for more of the same. NO.
Absolutely! It's gonna be interesting.
Big deal. LOL
Just keep following that old path of least resistance and you are going to end up with an Arnuld for all of us.
I’ve sent some support to both Tanc and Hunter...now I wish they’d publically support FDT and really get the ball rolling!
And you prefer?
To vote for the best candidate which is Hunter.
1) I love Tanc
2) I suspect Hunter will get his votes
Neither Tanc nor Hunter are “front runners”
See my tagline for a definition of “front runner”e
Figured that. But to say a Tancredo bump to Thompson would be no big deal after Steve King (who's highly respected in his district) did the same, is a little disingenuous. Or should I call it sour grapes?
In any event, it hasn't happened yet, so let's take what comes when it comes :>)
Neither Tanc nor Duncan have any thunder. Hard to prove a theft.
Oh pleaszzzzz.
Call it whatever you want, sour grapes or whatever. We all want change yet few are acting on it.
DUNCAN HUNTER gets things done!

14 days and the selection process begins..... how much further can he slip and even pray to be a contender?
Just because we don't have your wisdom and experience doesn't mean we aren't acting on what we have :>)
