Tom Tancredo has scheduled a press conference in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon to make a "major announcement regarding the campaign," according to a media advisory his campaign sent out today.
Asked whether Tancredo intended to drop out of the race, his congressional spokesman, TQ Houlton, said he didn't know. But Houlton didn't affirm that Tancredo was staying in and directed calls to the campaign.
A campaign spokesman didn't immediately reply to an email or voice mail.
Tancredo will appear at the Des Moines Marriott tomorrow at 2:00 Central, according to the advisory.
Despite the fervor Iowa Republicans have over Tancredo's pet issue, immigration, the Colorado congressman has not seen a commensurate bump in the polls. And even though he's run a couple of provocative ads warning about the security threat of illegal immigration, his numbers have remained in the low single-digits.
Perhaps most notably, Tancredo's close friend, Rep. Steve King, passed over his colleague and threw his support behind Fred Thompson this week. King and Tancredo have worked closely on immigration and many in Iowa thought King would not endorse as long as Tancredo was in the race.
A source close to King said they knew of the press conference for tomorrow but didn't know what Tancredo would announce.
We’ll see. I rather doubt he shares your view of Fred Thompson.
Thanks for the ping...
...food for thought: Tancredo has been releasing his press releases through his official House site as of late and not through his campaign site.
I’m thinking he drops out. The question is who he will support. I hope it’s Hunter personally...
Well, it would certainly suprise me if he doesn’t share my view of Thompson. We shall see. He could be dropping out to run for the Seante seat and not endorse anyone.
I hear that!
I’d sure like to have his voice in the Senate.
fwiw, I would vote for him as a 3rd party candidate. The other two parties have become dangerous.......
Tom Tancredo should endorse the GOP Presidential ticket of Duncan Hunter/Fred Thompson! This would make things more interesting.
What color is the sky in your world?
Blue vs. Gray....We’ve been fighting the party of slavery, sedition, subversion, socialism and surrender for more than 232 years.
dunderheads are not good, but danderheads have all those white flakes on their black suit coats.
I’m thinking that if Tancredo comes to the realization that he’s out of it, he will not throw his support to another candidate who is out of it (and who was never really in it except maybe here on Free Republic).
If he wants his support to mean something, he will give it to Fred.
I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
That is a gross mischaracterization of Fred Thompson’s stand on the border.
Are you Nurse Ratchett in disguise?
Attn: Hunter supporters!
Please make a comment re: Hunter in the comments section at OP link.
ACTIONS speak much more loudly than EMPTY campaign rhetoric.

“Nobody’s advocating that these people all be rounded up. Nobody’s advocating that they even be arrested and incarcerated, although they’re in violation of the law”
I suppose you understood his “aspirations of citizenship” for illegals to mean something other than AMNESTY!?
Look. Fred doesn’t simplify complicated issues into sound bites that will satisfy the uninformed. I’ve heard him speak on border issues many times.
He advocates: much stronger border control; dealing with companies that hire illegals; getting rid of the ‘born here’ thing; deporting criminals.
He believes that all those measures, if enforced, would result in significant attrition of those already here and would substantially reduce the numbers coming in.
If you want to believe someone who promises to make every illegal vanish in a puff of smoke, then go ahead.
Fred has a sensible and workable plan and he has never advocated amnesty.
I’ll admit, he talks a good game. Too bad his record as a SINator doesn’t fare as well. The law states that those here illegally are to be IMPRISONED and DEPORTED.....his latest statements says he wouldn’t even follow the law. So much for “Mr. Law & Order on the Border”.
Other reports have speculated that he’s going to run for Senate. I would love to see him there!
If this is true, congratulations and well done to Cong. Tancredo and his supporters. He’s done what was needed to get the word out on both immigration and also on spending.
On the extremely remote chance that Tancredo even got on the ballot, he would be obliterated by the Democrat in the general election.
