Obama: History’s verdict on Bush will ‘not be kind’
The Hill ^ | December 18, 2007 | Klaus Marre

Posted on 12/18/2007 11:50:53 AM PST by mdittmar

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) on Tuesday blasted President Bush’s foreign policy record, saying that “his judgments will be subject to the harsh light of history, and the verdict will not be kind.”

But Obama also criticized his main opponents for the Democratic nomination for helping start the Iraq war.

“It’s easy for us to lay all of the problems of the world at George Bush’s doorstep,” Obama said in Des Moines, Iowa.

“George Bush did not take us to war alone,” the Illinois senator stated, noting that Congress authorized the use of force.

Obama indicated that his opposition to the war gives him an edge in a general election matchup.

“My opponent won’t be able to say that I ever supported the war in Iraq, or that I don’t support a clear timetable to bring our troops home,” Obama said, taking a swipe at Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). “He won’t be able to say that I voted to use our troops in Iraq to counter Iran, or that I support the Bush-Cheney diplomacy of not talking to leaders we don’t like.”

Obama reiterated his pledge to personally talk to Iran about its choices.

“We need a president who is willing to talk to all nations — friend and foe,” Obama said. “Not talking doesn’t make us look tough, it makes us look arrogant.”

The Illinois senator pledged to listen to all of his advisers and said that there would not be an “ideological or loyalty test” in his administration.

Well, this is going to sound crazy but I am about ready for Hillary to drop a bomb on this idiot. I am sick and tired of the media orgasm over this dumbo elephant stand-in.

Once BDS wears its way out of the population at large, W will be remembered favorably. Once the hysteria of the day is over, people, and history, will see that things went DAMN well considering ALL that the country had been through during W's tenure.

I think the last President who was as hated as W, was Lincoln, another one who comes to mind more recently, was Truman.

If it weren’t for his support of illegals, President Bush would probably be remembered as one of our best Presidents.

The real question is, will history remember who Obama is?

This is not about GWB (Obama's supporters already hate him), it's all about HRC, and trying to paint her with the same brush.

but history will not remember Michael Dukakis and B. Hussein Obama.

During the last election when that picture of Kerry in the bunny suit thing came out, a Freeper posted the infamous picture of Dukakis in the tank. A number of young Freepers chimed in and said, "I don't get it - who is that?"

Forgotten indeed! Less than 20 years.

Since History is usually written by ivory tower, Liberal, campus-bound intellectuals, no, I suspect it won't be.

My dad had a history book (before it was "civics", before it was scrubbed, before it was gone) that knew that Western Culture was superior to all others, that Christians were usually the moving force behind most good, and that by the time it was written, America had saved the world once and was on the path to do it again, a few times more. I miss those days when we knew we were good and right.

Obama: History’s verdict on Bush will ‘not be kind’

Of course not, if it is the revisionist history that so many liberals are touting these days.

ummmm this just in Ubama, the war is improving, not your typical sabotaged vietnam.

And we heard the same rants about how failed Reagan was.

You know just before the wall came down and even afterward.

A sure fire way to know a good job is being done is when a liberal says a good job isn’t being done.

GREAT barometer Ubama...

Ubameter...I like it!

My prediction of a Hillar\Obama vs. Huckabee matchup:

Hillary will crush Huckabee, 55%-45%.

Obama will only barely beat Huckabee, 50.5%-49.5%.

Obama is the weaker of the two, in my opinion.

The Germans to proud, to stupid and self absorbed, would never admit it, but their country today stands united because of him.

By the time of the 1980 election, I had been living in a small town in Germany (Traben-Trarbach) for about 3 years. My neighbors pleaded with me to vote for Jimmuh, as they were certain that RR would start WW3.

In my best German, which wasn't too bad by that time, I tried to reassure them that the US, and the free world, needed RR as our President.

27 years later, I'd say that vote worked out pretty well for all of us.

I'd like to think that my explanations made sense to most of my neighbors. Shortly after the election, I was invited to sit at the stammtische, a table reserved for family and close friends of the proprietor, at the nearby gasthaus.

If I ever decide to run for president, I can always use that to burnish my foreign policy credentials. Additionally, I made quite a few friends in the Northern German tourist town of Lutjenburg (near Kiel) during a temporary assignment in 1979.

To this day, the summer of 1979 ranks as the best summer of my life: I was a bachelor with a few bucks in my pocket as a 1LT, the job entailed 4 days a week max, and we were the only Americans for about 200 miles (except for the units that came to train for a week, and they were confined to the post for much of the week).

Adding to the fun was the fact that I was in charge for about 75% of the time, as the CO was dealing with his family problems 400 miles away. I had excellent NCO's, and let them do their jobs. Interesting sidenote: one of the battalions that came through was commanded by Jay Garner, who would end up with 3 stars and eventually was assigned to direct the reconstruction of Iraq in 2003.

Accordingly, I'd say my experience in foreign relationships far exceeds that of three top-tier Democrat candidates.

Poor Obama.......proving you can take the boy out of the madrassas but you can’t take the madrassas out of the boy...

He STILL speaks more like a Muslim than his peculiar and black racist brand of Christianity....

His “Pastor” was interviewed recently — and I thought the clown was going to “lawyer up” before answering any questions...

Now - THAT’s a “church” that could possible deserve some investigative attention.....

"No kidding. Six years after 9/11 and not a single successful terrorist attack on American soil."

Nor any attacks on US Embassies abroad. Remember how under Clinton we just got accustomed to our embassies blowing up?
