COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee criticized the Confederate flag, which happens to be hoisted on the Statehouse grounds in the early primary state of South Carolina.

Both candidates are front-runners in South Carolina. Both may have to answer questions about those comments next time they hit the state.

I promise you will be one of the first to know when this thing goes to publication. You will either love it or hate it! lol
I hope it’s the former...:<)
P.S.
My favorite Stand Watie quote, from letters he wrote my grgraunt.
Summer, 1863 “Sometimes I examine myself thoroughly and I will always come to the conclusion that I am not such a bad man at last as I am looked upon. God will give me justice. If I am to be punished for the opinions of other people, who do not know my heart, I cant help it.
Watie concluded. My great crime in the world is blunder. I will get into scrapes without intention or any bad motive. I call upon my God to judge me, he knows that I love my friends and above all others my wife and children, the opinion of the world to the contrary notwithstanding.

It appears you're confusing the Confederate flag with the UN flag. Not a oft-seen mistake.
It's probably a first, actually.
I then posted here. A followup was posted 6 hours later at newsbusters. On Thursday (next morning), I checked the link and found it broken. Upon further investigation, I discovered CNN moved the dateline to the 29th - same exact story.
Motivation? Just amazing.
i'm proud to be his MULE-holder.

IMHO, they should have simply said, "Frankly, I couldn't care less what that flag means to you or anyone else. With the war in Iraq, our war with radical islam, out of control illegal immigration, an entitlement-driven fiscal crisis looming, an Iran hell-bent on getting nukes, and dozens of other pressing problems, we don't have time for such trivialities. I suggest we move on to the next question, which will hopefully be something substantive."
Then they're idiots.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Perhaps, but it isn't part of the heritage of the rest of the country. If they want to celebrate it, that's just fine and dandy; let them fly their flag outside their homes or private clubs or put confederate stickers on their pickups. I don't give rat's ass.
It's of no concern to the country as whole, and hence of no concern to the president. Hence anyone who makes an issue of it during a presidential campaign is an idiot.
NO??? (i thought not.)

There is no reason to obsess about that flag IMO.
FRED THOMPSON will be the winner in South Carolina. I assure you!
Nope, and neither do most Americans.
Hence the flag is not a matter of national concern. At most it's a matter of regional concern. Why then are you making it an issue in a presidential campaign?
If you care so much about it, go bother your gubernatorial candidates and state legislators about it, but don't waste the rest of the country's time with your fetish.
the ONLY reason that this is an VERY IMPORTANT national issue is that the answer, given by each candidate for POTUS, tells us a lot about whether they believe the federal government should stay OUT of the affairs of citizens/towns/counties/parishes/states or not.
fwiw, i want the government OUT of our church/businesses/schools/lives FOREVER. (don't go away mad, just go away.)
further, the GOP cannot win without the solid support of all the dixie states. the truth is that get right on the local/regional issues (which are important to each region) or LOSE the election.

I co-host a talk-radio show in Columbia.
Answer: A h@ll of a lot of Southerners. No topic has ever resulted in as many call ins as the Romney/Thompson flap. The wrong answer to that question ended the political careers of SC Govs. David Beasley, Jim Hodges, and Georgia Gov. Roy Barnes. The "wrong" answer on that question defeated McCain in SC in 2000, and if my callers are right (and there were a lot of them)it could cost Romney the lead in SC, and hurt Thompson. The Ron Paul/Duncan Hunter/Mike Huckabee campains are rejoicing.
Who cares? You obviously don't live in Dixie. There is a lot more loyalty to the Confederate flag in the South, than there is to the Republican party.

Although we have always been ready to fight the yankees wars for them, there is a Scots-Irish anger rising over the fact that we are fighting for our natural enemies, the Anglo-Saxon Cromwellians of the Northern States.
Ron Paul has united Christians, Southrons, Black and White, libertarians, Republicans and Democrats, all of which just want government to stay out of our lives.
The Free Republic, Republican groupies, who have forgotten what freedom means should take notice. A rEVOLution is taking place.
The Republic is watered by the blood of Tyrants, Republocrat, and Democrain.
