Sen. Hillary Clinton tells Katie Couric: I will be the Democratic nominee
Orlando Sentinel ^ | Nov. 26, 2007 | Staff

Is Sen. Hillary Clinton feeling any doubts about winning the Democratic nomination for president? Not at all.

"It will be me," Clinton tells Katie Couric in an interview to air Monday on the "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric." The broadcast airs at 6:30 p.m. on WKMG-Channel 6.

Couric also asked if Clinton is concerned that Oprah Winfrey could boost Sen. Barack Obama by campaigning for him in three key states.

"No, at the end of the day," Clinton says. "I'm proud to have my husband support me ... with his knowledge, experience and incredible ability to vouch for me."

I think "It will be I" is the correct grammatical form. Minor thing as most people say it this way now, but I was taught differently, and I did not go to Wellesley.

I believe that, in 1968, Wellesley was teaching that the concept of "good English" was nothing but an exclusionary cultural construct of the white patriarchy and that it was every scholar's revolutionary duty to fight the system by recognizing the equal relative worth of all possible alternative Englishes.

There is, however, an alternative explanation, and that is this: that Hillary is a second-rate phony graduate of a second-rate phony school; that her main talent is that of figuring out what the gatekeeper of the moment wants to hear and parroting it back with as much sincerity as possible, and that, given that the gatekeepers at Wellesley were nearly (but not quite) as stupid and phony as Hillary, she breezed in, breezed through, and breezed out the door without anyone figuring out that she was just another boring mediocrity who had figured out that the trick to fooling a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals is simply to spout a bunch of tendentious nonsense about Marxist paradigm-shifting and similar buell.

Now, unfortunately, the problem is that the "gatekeeper" is the voting public, but Hillary thinks the gatekeeper is the main stream media, or maybe George Soros. This has led her to make some really bone-headed miscalculations.

Good for you, Doug.

If it was a Republican candidate’s name in your email, your phone would be ringing off the hook.

The silence of the MSM in this entire matter shows their complicity in keeping bad news about the Anointed One out of the public’s eye.

Geez, maybe even I could have graduated from that snobby place if that is the case, doubt if I'd have been accepted. All you have to do is suck up to a few male professors, and I avoided my teachers like the plague, don't speak unless spoken to, came by it honestly because I was always in trouble with one or more of them for something or other, got expelled from hs for 3 days. Surely you know whereof you speak, and talk about colorful language, you are right on. Buell? Typo or my limited vocabulary? It was my friend Graybeard who came up with the colorful language.

I only had a 3.2? GPA out of hs because I never cracked a book, just wrote my papers and did the math assignments. What I learned was through osmosis. I never knew what the heck I wanted to be, just that I didn't want to go to Grinnell like my mom wanted me to. So my sister graduates magna cum laude from Smith. Now that place has gone to the dogs. I went to see her there in the 60's when I was married to my dear ex, and I think she couldn't get rid of us fast enough. I wasn't even hurt at the time. We were a lowly service couple during the Nam years, he stationed at Ft. Devens. I think she was ashamed of me/us in front of her high falutin' friends. He wasn't an officer, and it is debatable if he was ever a gentleman. Good-looking though.

I took his photo in a race a couple years ago. After I clicked the shutter, he comes up even with me, I keep looking straight ahead. "Do you know who I am". A monotone, "no", replies I. "Your ex-husband" and walks on up the hill. Um, that's odd, I'm thinking. Had to blow up the photo and look at his name tag to make sure I hadn't imagined that one. It was HE. I didn't know who he was, hadn't seen him for 18 years or so, didn't care to. Isn't life odd?

The word "buell" is an utterance which arose from the very heart of the fervid youth culture of upstate New York as it existed during approximately the same time interval that Hillary was ensconced in academic finetude at lovely Wellesley, an institution which practically defines the word ennui as it applies in a group setting.

To get the full frisson effect of "buell," one must allow air pressure to build up behind the glossalpharyngym tympanum oscularium, thereby propelling the labial stop "b" or "buh" vocalization to leap forth with an explosive aspect.

"Really? Did anyone in FReeper land happen to watch the Katie Couric/Hildabeast interview this evening?"

"Interview"? Are you kidding? What are the odds Couric did anything BUT suck up to Hillary?

LOL! You be a talkin' way over my head, and I don't mind. Where the heck did YOU go to school and where did you learn that lingo? Your post exudes measured sarcasm until you build up to the grand finale, le coup de grace, if you will.

Gotta shift gears real quicklike here and finish the blurbs for the photos I'm entering in a contest that have GOT to get in the mail to meet the deadline Nov 30, been putting it off because, I couldn't get motivated to WRITE! It just occurred to me maybe I should enter the one of my ex and the story behind that one ha ha. Put it in their humor category. I didn't have one for that. But eight is the limit, and I'm committed. And too tired to write up the last one.

Would you believe I was almost tempted to enter the one of my granddaughter with Hillary? It fits the category Iowa people, at least my granddaughter is from here, and it plays a big part in the national elections, why don't ask me. My pro friend and others thought it inappropriate for a contest, and it might appear that the magazine was endorsing her. My sister's husband took her photo with Giuliani awhile back, and it is off center. My other daughter got on a news website when she went to see Obama and they asked her for a sound bite. The 10:00 tv news for that channel cut most of his speech and her. But mom, it said CBS on the camera. I said that's probably the local affiliate.

I don't let people take my photo if I can help it, don't know who I'd go see anyway. I said somebody with a cute kid or puppy will win. Then I found my daughter's photo of a cute kid and puppy, had a big print made, and am entering that one for her. I even hope it wins lol.

I know. I’m punchy and tired. Probably none of that makes any sense. I was all over the map there. My mind works by association, and I get going and don’t have sense enough to quit. Drives my friends nuts trying to follow my train of thought. Nite.

I think "It will be I"

"It" is the subject, "me" is the direct object. You don't say "The ball will hit I.", do you? "I" if you are the subject of the sentence. "Me" otherwise.

"It will be me," Clinton tells Katie Couric

Well, if that's the case, Hillary Clinton, should also start 'telling' Katie that her Vice Presidential pick will be either John Huang or Johnny Chung.

The ball will hit I

"I" if you are the subject of the sentence. "Me" otherwise.

Not necessarily. You didn't address me, but I brought it up. Hit is a different kind of verb than "to be" (am, is, are, was, were, be, etc.). The latter I was taught is a linking verb and the object? is expressed in the nominative case which would be the same you would use for the subject. A verb like hit is an action verb or transitive, maybe it's intransitive, never understood the difference on that, verb which has an object. The objective case for the word I is me, so you are correct about that.

Here is a page called The Tongue Untied:

A guide to grammar, punctuation and style

Example on page if you scroll down: "It is I who have allergies."

Just don't hit me.

No, but I did hear Brent Bozell promoting his new book on Howie Carr, and Bozell said "Katie's been 'go-to' gal for the past 'some'-teen years, whenever Hillary gets into trouble...".

I can't stand Couric, and never watched more than a few seconds, and even that, only by accident.

My local drive time station has her "notebook" on, and I generally pop in a cd.

Did I mention an editor/reporter on the broadcast industry said, when the rumors began of Couric's possible jump to the CBS anchor desk, that Hillary had stayed overnight at the Perky One's place, and that CBS would have to call a halt to that relationship if they had Couric reporting on the race for the presidency if Hillary threw her thong underwear into the ring, if CBS hoped to keep up the faux appearance of neutrality?

Could you expand your view of the Kennedy, Nixon debates?

Sorry, no, I was AWOL politically during those years. Furthermore, I don't care. Only in more recent years have I taken notice of politics because so much is at stake (always was, just preoccupied with surviving & other interests and took our peace and safety generally on the home front for granted). I really don't like politics or most of the players, but try to keep up on which way the winds blow as best I can if it doesn't get too boring.

A trusting soul sitting on a couch? I spend little time on the couch unless I'm sleeping on it. TV doesn't interest me any more, and I prefer the quiet. I like to hear the sounds from outside, especially the owls and other birds. There's always traffic noise, lawn equipment noise, power saw, etc., not as quiet as the farm where sometimes all you can hear is the wind.

I didn't get negative vibes from your posts to me, quite the contrary, but I wasn't sure what you were after there. I started out in life being too gullible and trustful, developed strong distrust for most everything, now I sort of trust a few people but not completely and blindly.
