Indianapolis - US Representative Julia Carson says she has terminal lung cancer.
The 69-year-old Democrat, who took a leave of absence from Congress because of a leg infection a couple of months ago, released a statement to the Indianapolis Star saying she had battled cancer before, it had gone into remission, but has returned with "a terminal vengeance".
She said doctors discovered the cancer while treating her this summer.
Carson, who is from Indianapolis, has served in Congress since 1996. She had also served in the state legislature and as Center Township trustee.
Eyewitness News will have more on this story this morning on Sunrise.

A terrible tragedy. Having lost a grandmother to cancer it something that affects the entire family, not just the patient.

To all you DU'ers and Kos Kid reading this thread.
You will not see us reveling in her sickness. We unlike many of those on your web sites that wished Tony Snow dead, we know that Cancer does not go after someone because they have a 'D" or a "R" in back of their name. Cancer is an equal opportunity disease.

I am not her judge and will pray for her and her family through these dificult times.
She is a big supporter of Abortion rights (murder of unborn children). Hopefilly she can get right with God or she may be roasting in hell for eternity.

Exactly, I am one of her sharpest critics, but this is not the time for that. Politics aside, a human is dying. She has friends and family that love her, may they all find peace.

I agree ... My wife went home in June of '04 from Sarcoma cancer ... ONLY by grace through faith have we (three kids 18,14 and 11 at the time) have we been able to continue with peace and hope.
Dear Julia .. if you're not saved ... get saved ... if you are ... draw nigh unto Him and He will draw nigh unto you.
My prayers for her family.
