Obama: I Tried Drugs As a Teen
By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer 15 minutes ago
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday told high school students that when he was their age he was hardly a model student, experimenting with illegal drugs and drinking alcohol.
Obama stopped by a study hall at Manchester Central High School and answered students' questions about the war in Iraq and his education plan. But when an adult asked about his time as a student, Obama spoke bluntly.
"I will confess to you, I was kind of a goof-off in high school. My Mom reminds me of that," said Obama, an Illinois Democrat who grew up in Hawaii
"You know, I made some bad decisions that I've actually written about. You know, got into drinking. I experimented with drugs," he said. "There was a whole stretch of time that I didn't really apply myself a lot. It wasn't until I got out of high school and went to college that I started realizing, 'Man, I wasted a lot of time.'"
Obama has written about his drug use in his memoir, "Dreams from My Father."
"Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final fatal role of the young would be black man," Obama wrote. Mostly he smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, Obama wrote, but occasionally he would snort cocaine when he could afford it.
Drugs, Obama wrote, were a way he "could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory."

“Obama has already admitted this. The Novak piece is different.”
The cocaine part? I did not hear that before.
Woah, talk about a bad trip man! Maybe that's why Bill "tried it but didn't like it". Betcha he's still having bad trips whenever she's around. :)
The question(s) will be: how long ago; are you still using; what is your advice to kids today?
I also have never taken any illegal, non-prescribed drug, never. I have drank a few beers but never cultivated the taste and haven’t had one of those in 12 years. hard alcohol is a losing situation.
If Hillary is going after Obama on cocaine, that is a hugely risky strategy. The Clintons allowed brother Roger to snort cocaine in the White House. And I know a couple of Bill’s suppliers from back in the 70s.

OK, and who hasnt?
mitt romney and duncan hunter....
thats who
I’ll take your word on that. I have always been a control freak when it comes to my senses and memory.
I imbibe alcohol from time to time (I like a good beer with a thick steak), but always well within the bounds of moderation.
I never had a desire to be stoned beacuse I saw how people behaved when they were drunk or high.
I am not judging you, FRiend. I am just stating that I never used “recreational pharmaceuticals” and have never had a desire to do so.
What if he was “selling” drugs? Now that would be the same story...with a differnt twist.
Well, that should increase his chances of winning the Democrat nomination.
me neither
But we already know the "lie."
I find this interesting. What year did you graduate High School?
Is "I tried drugs" supposed to imply that you didn't continue using? I guess so.
It's better than, "I tried drugs once, then waited until the next weekend to try them again. I liked it so much that I started trying them every weekend, then I tried them every day for several years (I was later told). I stopped trying drugs when I was arrested - but I only quit trying drugs for a little while. After that, I tried them again for several years - morning, noon and night - until I ran for office. During that time I tried being more careful. Now I don't admit to trying drugs anymore."
If by “accused of asking his wife for sex” you mean taking her to sex clubs and demanding that she perform sex acts on him in front of others then yeah, sure.
As far as I know. I suppose he's trying to imply that he grew up on the mean streets of... wherever, and overcame the obstacles laid out before him by The Man.

No. I'm guessing that whatever she's keeping on reserve is much worse.
