Spitzer to abandon plan giving driver's licenses for illegal immigrants (Good!)
AP via syracuse.com ^ | November 13, 2007

Posted on 11/13/2007 6:14:12 PM PST by jmyrlefuller

Congressional aides say New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to abandon his plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Officials familiar with the decision tell The Associated Press that Spitzer will meet Wednesday morning with New York's congressional delegation. Many of them have openly opposed the program and debate over the issue has spilled over into the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement has been made, say that after the meeting, Spitzer will say he is shelving the plan and that immigration is a federal issue to be handled by Washington.

Now now, Utah got tough. Illegals don't get Utah divers licenses, they get driver privilege cards...so take that! </sarc>

What can be done with states populated by spineless constituents?

I'm in Utah. I don't think the population here or elsewhere is spineless, the problem is most are woefully uninformed (and don't care to be)...actually, I suppose that does make them spineless.

When I've talked to people, the majority are totally clueless on political topics (especially on local and state levels). They do go vote but that's about it. I've even had a couple tell me they decide on a candidate/issue based on the number of signs they see on the way to the polls. Like the rest of the nation, people here seem to vote more on an emotional basis than a factual basis.

I've been able to convince my family (and in-laws) to look at issues and facts rather than puff (signs, 30 sec ads) but, ultimately, that's a drop in the bucket.

The other thing that concerns me is some the lack of US history and civics knowledge. It is appalling. Worse yet, is the fact that I grew up attending schools outside of the US but know much more US history etc than most people around here...WTH?!

Frankly, as a resident of NY, I’m shocked that there was such an uproar here. Even more shocked that we shut Spitzer down.

I would have expected a conservative state like Utah to have fought this much harder than New Yorkers did.

I’m not sure what is worse, uninformed voters who vote or people who don’t.

Unfortunately in this country we seem to have a whole lot of the former.

The National Dems got to him. His plan became a liability too fast.

Bill clinton: Hi Elliot, ya know that plan of yours could come up at Hillary's next debate, we'd like her to be able to say that you pulled it so there is nothong more to say about it, and uh, we have the FBI records of your father's illegal campaign loan to you whcih carries a sentence of 5 to 10. Elliot Spitzer: Bill, tell Hillary I'm flying to D.C. right away to tell our Congressional leaders that the deal is done. Bill: You're doing the right thing, jail is an awful place and you don't want to be found in Central park either. CLICK

Rush just said—Just like Andrew Cuomo and Toricelli were taken out by Don Vito Clintoneone, Governor Spitzer must have gotten a phone call.

From the article currently linked on Drudge's web page:

He also criticized the federal government for leaving states to deal with illegal immigrants. Congress failed to overhaul immigration laws earlier this year.

"The federal government has lost control of its borders, has allowed millions of undocumented immigrants to enter our country and now has no solution to deal with it," he said at the news conference, where he was joined by Democratic lawmakers from the state.

You know immigration is a changed issue when even a flaming New York leftist is demanding that Bush should control the borders--even though he is still pretending that the Bush/Kennedy plan would have done it!

Ha, ha, ha, ha. The Dems had a lid on this issue, but they opened the illegal immigration bottle and now the genie is loose.

I think you are right. Hildabeast doesn’t want any more “questions” about illegal driver licenses.

Its interesting you bring that up. I used to think voting was all important and was a little shocked when those older than I would cynically state that people should take a simple test (who's president etc) before voting. I find myself on their side now. Maybe not to the point of issuing a test, but at the very least, of the opinion that if you don't know what or who you are voting for, not voting is the most patriotic thing you can do.

The uninformed vote here leaves us stuck with weak kneed elected officials (make people feel good and say nice things but have no real conviction) and heavier tax burdens (it's for the children/community health) comprised of lots of special interest projects (such as art taxes, government run fitness centers etc). But hey, at least we feel good about it.

It seems the NEA public ed system has worked: the outcomes don't matter, it's how you feel.

Why would the Dems actually listen to the will of the masses?

Spitzer can now abandon any ambitions for higher office. Once you get outed as an illegal alien supporter, enabler and apologist, it’s pretty much over for you.

..exactly...with promises to revive same once (IF) she is crowned...

Exactly right!... "This is not the right time for that Governor..."

The Democrapps dream with creating another group like the blacks (some? most?) who depend of them. They dream with having all the illegals (Mexicans?) without learning English so the the NEED the Democrats to validate them.

P.S. I am not saying ALL blacks! ok? :)

“Elliot the Idiot” can also forget any future gubernatorial aspirations. He still hasn’t come clean on his “Troopergate”
scandal. He has condemned himself to one term. Some f-—ing steamroller....
