UFOs may be fodder for comedians and science fiction but there was no joking Monday when a group of pilots and officials demanded the US government reopen an investigation into unidentified flying objects.
The 19 former pilots and government officials, who say they have seen UFOs themselves or been involved in probes of strange flying objects, told reporters their questions can no longer be dismissed more than 30 years after the US case was closed.
"We want the US government to stop perpetuating the myth that all UFOs can be explained away in down-to-earth, conventional terms," said Fife Symington, former governor of Arizona and air force pilot who says he saw a UFO himself in 1997.
"Instead our country needs to reopen its official investigation that it shut down in 1969," Symington told a news conference.
Symington read an appeal on behalf of the group of who came to Washington to recount their sightings of UFOs.
"We believe that for reasons of both national security and flight safety, every country should make an effort to identify any object in its airspace," the statement said.
The group included a retired pilot from Air France who said he saw an enormous flying disc during a flight from Nice to London in 1994, an Iranian pilot who tried in vain to fire on a UFO in 1976 and a former US official from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) who claims a probe into a UFO seen over Alaska in 1987 was squelched.
"'Who believes in UFOs?' is the kind of attitude of the FAA all the time," Symington said.
"However, when I asked the CIA person: 'What do you think it was,' he responded 'a UFO.'"
When Symington suggested the government tell Americans about a UFO, the CIA official allegedly told him: "'No way, if we were to tell the American public there are UFOs they would panic.'"
The subject of UFOs came up in a recent debate among presidential candidates, with Democrat Dennis Kucinich saying he saw a UFO.
Skeptics say UFO sightings are merely aircraft or meteors re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
Ya know Kev, maybe the authors UFO controversy started in the 1890s, or your perceived "real good UFO flap" occurred when you read his book.
However...Stuff like this dates back a bit longer than that. People used to paint and carve out weird things on their cave walls. I'd bet they thought their flap was bigger n' yours.
They'd probably laugh at your big flap.
Interesting stuff though eh?
Me? I think life exists elsewhere, on other rocks orbiting other star systems. I could be wrong. But I'd bet a cup of coffee I'm not.
And ya know what, I respect your opinion.

I think they defined a flap as 10 or more witnesses reporting the same event and having access to the original written records. That narrows down so many prior supposed sightings as a basis to work from that the 1890s flap jumps out as the first example of a UFO flap.
If you want to focus on the shakier evidence, that’s your prerogative. But it is not as reliable. Here’s an example: The first press release of the Wright brothers’ plane said something like it had 6 wings, was steam powered, flew & landed vertically, and carried several passengers. About the only thing they got right was that there WAS a flight that day. Requiring multiple sources makes the study of the phenomenon more focused.
Go ahead & read the book, and if you don’t think I’m a barrel of laughs, we should just change the title of the thread.
Who is they? This planet goes back a tad longer than whoever "they" is Kev.
Me thinks "they" are way arrogant. Just a guess, but cavemen probably didn't carve out some military craft on their cave walls, and probably don't care what "they" thinks. I know I don't.
Whadduya think Kev?
IIRC, “they” are the authors of that book, “The History of the UFO Controversy in America,” by Jacobs.
Ya might as well add a link, and the purchase price with tax.

Thanks Kev! I’m sure that will generate enough cash flow to fill his tank.
I’m aware of your perspective.
I don’t buy it.
I don’t know whether the WATCHERS/NEPHILIUM/FALLEN ANGELS come from other galaxies or more likely other dimensions.
My relative worked around the stuff. I trust my relative’s experiences and observations ahead of several tons of other noise.
It is NOT all our cleverness.
Occham’s Razor is not a magic shiboleth nor talisman.
Certainly there’s more than a little disinformation.
And, it’s more than a little plausible that a good percentage of abductions are carried out by our own black ops people—i.e. the globalist puppet masters’ black ops people.
I suppose you’ve never checked out
It was the light from Venus reflecting off some swamp gas.
Actually, if it was 2005 then it was probably just the tequila.
Now, if it had been in 2006....
My father-in-law was a pilot for Pan-Am and flew the round-the-world flight for several years. I asked him if he ever saw any 'UFOs'. His answer was no, but his vehemence was rather too strong.
It was obviously a juke box. Ask Homer.
I suppose that means you won’t be buying Renato Vesco’s book and opening your mind to possibilities. A shame.
Don’t recall if I’ve got it yet, or not. I usually read the better recent crop of stuff.
My mind seems a LOT more open than yours does, BTW.
Not my fault you evidently have not had a close relative working around the craft.
Not MY handicap.
My mind seems a LOT more open than yours does, BTW.
***Let’s see. At one time I believed there were extraterrestrials flying around in flying saucers visiting this planet. Then I started reading up on both sides of the story, and now I no longer believe that but have evidence to show that they are secret weapons. Now, that means my mind was open to the possibilities that you are so melancholic about, but it is also open to other possibilities. Your mind is only open to one possibility, and not the other. Therefore, your mind is more closed and mine is more open. Read the book.
The book may be in the pile I’m picking up at the post office today from Amazon. I don’t recall. I have nothing against reading the book unless it’s too high priced.
My mind began exceedingly open about 1960.
THE FACTS and THE BEST EVIDENCE HEAVILY FILTERED
HAVE DETERMINED MY CURRENT CONCLUSIONS AND HYPOTHESES.
AGAIN—IT’S NOT MY FAULT that you have evidently had no reliable close relative or friend working in the field to better inform you.
The whole field is vastly complex. I find your explanation INSUFFICIENT to explain vast chunks of evidence . . . INCLUDING that from my relative. That’s reasonably sound assessment of the evidence—not closed mindedness.
You seem to have settled on ONE explanation—perhaps essentially from ONE BOOK. And you claim you’re less closed minded than I am. I think perhaps psychology is not your strong suit.
BTW, my PhD is in clinical psych.
When did you start studying the topic?
Hey, ya never know... they might have visited once before.
Ooooo eeeee oooooooo...
