I didn't immediately realize, as I made my way through the enrollment lines at college, how much it was going to cost me to live in Pasadena. My college had no dormitories so all students had to find off campus housing and transportation to get to get to school. Tuition averaged $11,000.00 per semester and the school ran 3 continuous semesters per year.
In a sincere effort to fund my education, I turned to my college financial aid office, where advisors never even suggested federal funding or grants etc. . They simply directed me to private loan companies, who were more than wiling to lend me twenty thousand dollars when I needed it; which was each semester. It was a smooth process.
Just looked at his Liberty Post thread. They knocked him around much worse over there.
*snicker*
I helped him out over there, also!
;)
Fraud! Wow, that’s harsh! What’s TOS?
“The Other Site”
meaning FR. Several people that got booted off of FR ended up at LP or the WideAwake site.
There’s several at LP that bash FR on various threads. Me, I get extra posting ideas (and stay in touch with a couple of bootees or people that left FR), which is where I found Joe!
This is where the story gets really, really fishy. It fails the smell test immediately. This says he borrowed $60,000., essentially in cash, all in a lump sum, in order to shoot his reel. Then he just plunked down this borrowed money, which was the key to his future (in his mind, anyway) at the hospital.
Having borrowed (who knows how many) tens of thousands of dollars, he doesn't inquire at the hospital about setting up a payment plan. Besides, didn't this whole drama unfold in California?!!
For crying out loud, if you can't get state-paid medical care there, you might as well give up on being a socialist altogether!
Well, damn. That just plain sucks.
And a spammer, no less? Ugh.
The ones harmed the most by assholes like this are the people who truly are in need of help from their fellow man. Scumbags who prey upon the generosity and sympathy of others end up destroying the generosity and sympathy of others, and when those who are in truly miserable straits need help, they go hungry, because those who otherwise would have helped -- gladly -- have been burned too many times by pathetic dredges of human debris who have reached into their pockets one time too many.
I am reminded of something I watched several years back, on a cat forum (yes, I confess, I am a cat-man! I have rescued a large number of these little critters, and found them to be far better friends than most "humans" I've encountered in this life).
What happened back then, was that a poster showed up from out of the blue, with a tale that just exuded the inconsolable pain of loss. He explained how his cat, his best little friend in this world, got outside, and before he could catch him, the poor little guy was hit by a car and killed.
You could just about see the tears dripping on his keyboard as he typed. The last time I'd read words of such grief, they began with "Absalom, Absalom..."
Yes, he was very good at crafting his words. But then, it seemed that he should be, since it was his job.
While others were busy sending him private emails offering their condolenses, trying to console him -- and, by so doing, providing him with what might in some quarters be termed "a list of highly targetted qualified email addresses, others did some gumshoe work.
Lo and behold, Mr. "I lost my cat" was a professional spammer, who had apparently hit upon the perfect method for motivating people to provide the one thing they normally guarded very diligently -- their email addresses. And, not only that, but he got them to self-qualify (as to demograpic, and whatever other information he was able to milk out of them via email).
Apparently he wasn't the only one to game the sympathies of others. And I'm sure Mr. "I lost my cat" wasn't the first either. P.T. Barnum was regarded as having a certain type of contempt for those of non-cynical bearing -- and, a skill for liberating their money from them. I doubt he was the first either.
And, I doubt that this spammer will be the last.
Oh, well. I've scraped better shit off the bottom of my shoe than the likes of many denizens of the Internet I've had the dubious honor of having encountered over the years.
What that ilk accomplishes it tantamount to emptying the soup kitchen of volunteer workers by picking their pockets, ensuring that they'll stop going downtown to help out anymore.
See my last post.
By trying to snooker people out of their money with an artfully confabulated tale of woe?
It's people like you that give honest beggars a bad name.
I am a cat fancier myself. I currently have a flame tipped Siamese that was abandoned. Wouldn't trade him for anything.
Well I’m not 95 yet, and it looks like no one has contributed to Joe’s fund since November 8th. Still at $110.50.
Please add me to the VK Zot list! Thanky muchy!
Anyone that wants to attend college these days can do so without much stress and financial strain.
BTW...I've not received any government or private loans nor accepted any grants.
