Eight 9-11 Hijackers Were Registered to Vote: Will MSM 'Drive' Story?
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

The fact has been out there for some time, but never garnered much media attention. Now, in the context of the current debate over the granting of driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, will there be renewed focus on this chilling reality? Could this be the factoid that changes a presidential election? As John Fund wrote in his Wall Street Journal column today and discussed during his "Morning Joe" appearance:

After 9/11, the Justice Department found that eight of the 19 hijackers were registered to vote.

View video of Fund's "Morning Joe" appearance here.

I was licensed to drive in five foreign countries. All required me to have a work or residence permit plus US Passport. None allowed me to register to vote.
No illegal would be allowed to vote.

What do other countries do about driver’s licenses for long term visitors? Has anyone here gotten a foreign license? What was the process?

In India, about thirty years ago, you carried your American Driver's License, along with a printed ID card from the Indian Government that gave you permission to drive using a foreign license. They didn't issue you an ID, however. In Europe, I think you just use your US ID. In Kenya, about 25 years ago, they issued a printed card that you used with your US license. I don't know if it was the same card as was issued to Kenyans or not. But somebody would force you to stop and stick a gun in your ear about every 50 km when you were on the road, and none of them was ever interested in seeing your Drivers License. More of a cash transaction, really.

In Somalia, nobody had any documentation of any kind, even the locals. You just tried to avoid accidents and didn't stop for anything.

Foreign countries aren’t dumb enough to have motor voter laws. They respect their citizens and protect their borders.

I have no problem with states granting a non-citizen Driver’s License to illegal immigrants. But it would have to be visually distinct with “NON-CITIZEN” printed in big, bold letters...I think this compromise would be acceptable to a broad swath of society. But the Democrats will never go for it, because they are interested in Vote Fraud. That is what this whole business is about for them, nothing more.

Why would an illegal alien want a driver's license [with his address and picture on it] that shows that he is illegally in this country? Couldn't that same document be used to round them up? Could the license be used as a document to deny employment? What are the benefits to the illegals that would induce them to apply for such a license?

Most of the American people don't support issuing any drivers license to illegals. Under the Spitzer plan, there is a specific driver's license that would only be issued to illegals under a three tier system. Despite having a license exclusively for illegals, 72% of New Yorkers are against it.

The big difference is that you were in those countries LEGALLY and had to prove that was the case.

It is a license to drive. It means if they are stopped for speeding, they are not immediately thrown into the hoosegow and fined $500 for driving without a license. I would not support any other benefits is those benefits are intended for citizens, of course.

That is the new compromise. But Spitzer was originally going to issue them regular Driver's Licenses. Now the well has been poisoned, and nobody trusts Spitzer.

The Devil is in the details, and nobody trusts Spitzer to do the right thing here. I don't care what he says about a three-tier system, until he can prove otherwise, I am going to assume that the IDs will not be distinctive enough that they are not an aid to voter fraud.

Using such a license opens them up to deportation if they are reported to and turned over to ICE under 287 [g] authority.

And the Democrats say “For the first time, we agree 9-11 was a tragedy! Kerry could have had those eight votes!”

Big "if" there. Hasn't NY already said they wouldn't turn them over, along with every other state in the North East?

Thank you for the answer. I know that when on vacation in EUrope we just showed our Colorado license, but we were just there for a week or so. Do these illegals not even have a Mexican driver’s license?

Thanks for the info. I knew that other countries weren’t as “sensitive” to illegal border jumpers. I was just curious as to how that worked.

Back in the seventies I had something called an International Driver’s License. Nobody ever asked to see it. When stopped by armed men claiming (accurately or otherwise) to be policemen it was good to mention that I was from Brooklyn. No matter where you go, everyone has a friend or relative there. As one rough looking character in North Africa said when I mentioned my hometown, “Ah, c’est la capital de les Etats Unis!”

What do other countries do about driver’s licenses for long term visitors? Has anyone here gotten a foreign license? What was the process? ================= Years ago I lived in Germany and in order to drive I had to obtain what was called an International Drivers License and purchase insurance. With that license I was able to drive all over Europe. Only German citizens had German licenses. I don't know if that has changed but it worked well then.

Foreign non-citizens get drivers licenses all the time. If I go to visit a foreign country, I can get a license to drive in that country, if I have my US/State issued license. Not EVERYWHERE, but most places, at least in the Western World, most if not all of Europe.

I don’t think ILLEGAL ALIENS should get ANYTHING. Legal VISITORs and tourists, legal immigrants YES.
