UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Fire cuts swath through Malibu Hills
*******************EXCERPT********************
Brian Vander Brug / Los Angeles Times Malibu resident Jim Palmer covers his face from the wind-driven smoke from the Canyon Fire in Malibu Canyon this morning.
***********
Low humidity and gusts of up to 50 mph drove the fire, sending embers flying, Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman. The fire will likely threaten thousands of homes over the next several days, he said.
By noon Sunday, the blaze had burned 1,000 acres, destroying three homes and two commercial buildings but had not caused any injuries. Nine other homes were damaged and four businesses in the Colony Creek shopping center were damaged.
"The wind is a fairly tremendous challenge to the firefighters," Freeman said. "They're working gallantly on the lines trying to protect the structures."
He said the fire was moving east toward the Carbon Canyon area.

WOW.
That is one fantastically beautiful campus.
Love their pools.
But . . . uhhhh . . . . IIRC, there’s not much WEST of Pepperdine
but . . . the highway 101 and THE PACIFIC????
Terrible....
That’s what I thought. Isn’t it only the highway between PEPPERDINE and the ocean??? Or is the highway even East of Pepperdine. Been decades since I’ve been there.
Those images had no high priority memory slots on the 60 year old organic hard drive.
Mel Gibson, BABs streistand, etc.
Oh poop.....I hear fire engines.
lol, yes, the beach where the stars houses are is about as big as a parking lot. the Doc probably hangs out there
KNBC live pictures of a Castle Kashan, built in the 1970’s in Malibu, used as a charity/fundraising locale mostly. It’s full of Elvis and other popular culture memorabilia. It’s burning to the ground.

Ponder, ponder, ponder.
I wonder, wonder, wonder . . .
celebs . . . stuck on themselves . . . giving excess change to charity . . .
burning to the ground . . .
is there a remote possibility of a message in all this???
naw . . . .
I believe it was KFI that mentioned hurricane force gusts in the canyons and 8% relative humidity.
Sounds like hell.
Flying Crane on Channel 9....not sure where....
They should widen PCH from Santa Monica to Malibu. They could also prevent their annual mudslides by doing a better job of shoring up their hill sides.
They need to cut fire breaks on the mountain slopes.
The electrical distribution lines to the seaside homes need to be moved underground. The drive from Santa Monica to Malibu looks like Tijuana.
Pepperdine north looks OK. But south is a hazard as well as an eyesore.
You need to drive up Malibu Canyon to Agoura and/or Calabassas to find a decent family restaurant or shopping mall.
The lefties are notorious for preventing modernization and new development. Just read the Malibu paper's letter to the editors.
Did you know that the nut who was recently eaten by bears along with his girl friend in Alaska were residents of Malibu. He thought he would be as one with nature. Typical moonbat.
Nice place to visit but you don't want to live there. Unless of course your a millionaire celebrity.
Early this morning they clocked gusts @ 108 mph
