UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Pocatello area. Better housing values. Good access to freeways (I-15/I-86). Airport is 7 miles from my house with free parking.

The housing sure did shoot up here in Coeur d’ Alene area since we moved up in 2000. It has really grown.
I hear it is nice down in Pocatello.

Well, the upgraded the radio system, and evacuation systems since them.
The problem with Orange and San Diego County, they dont have the number of helicopters they should have.
LA County leases those Super Scoopers for a million dollars plus every year. The other counties could do that, yet they dont.

The city of San Diego finances have been in shambles for some years. Money going to professional sports teams, stadiums and mismanaged employee retirement systems. As a former resident of the city of San Diego, I'm happy not to be financing that fiasco anymore.

That could be 100 mile plus trip because of road closures....In the wind, with the traffic. That's why I suggested a relay.

I’m pretty sure I’d beat the hell out of anyone I saw starting fires.
I suspect cops and firemen would too.

My windows are closed because of all the smoke in the air...

There was a new start in the Lake Arrowhead area on the other side of the Lake from the Grass fire. 50 by 50 spot fire started under suspicious circumstances. Investigators on scene. Looking for a red pick-up.
Same general area as most of the looting.

Housing values have climbed about 20% over the last two years in Pocatello. That made my purchase of a 2nd house in 2005 a decent investment. The area continues to grow and modernize. Many new retail and restaurants have built new facilities here. Water is still the limiting resource.

For those asking about CalLuvDubya, based on what I’ve heard from people in the area, I believe she will be getting GOOD news at 2 pm when the RB list comes out! :-) Yeah for someone who should be hearing their home is intact!

Good morning, Grammie, Fatima and Global2010. Im just signing back on FR; will catch up on thread. I am keeping TV off this morning, it is too depressing. We havent been able to make a list of CA FReepers in the worst areas, since events have moved so fast and folks check in as able. But the ones we know of have reportedly made it to safety. God bless our firefighters and all whose lives have been thrown into turmoil and loss in this disaster. God lift us up in SoCal.Just got back on FR since Sun. night. We evacuated Mon. morning from Rancho Bernardo. We are fine, our house is fine and our kitties are fine! We are still technically evacuated but we came back home last night. Once the power went back on we were set!
I haven't gotten updated with the thread but I hope everybody else is safe and their homes are intact!

Find a ham in the area working with RACES/Animal Rescue Reserve to tag up with some helpers on that issue.
