UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Some of Ramona has been evacuated earlier, but it’s about 35,000-40,000 people...but many there on the outskirts as it’s a rather sprawling/country-esque town.

Right now we’re trying to add CTAC (where all the action is) to the feed remotely. Will let you know.
Dispatch just asked for road directions, “so that FF can get up there and fight some fires tonight.” He went to the Too Cool School of Police Dispatch.
I retract my former statement. He’s in over his head AND a dork.
Thank you!
He's a City official...he's not invited to County doings...I would guess...
And when has that EVER stopped the little weasel from showing up?
Bill Handel (KFI) already said he’s going to have someone on to discuss that very issue tomorrow morning. For those of you who can stomach him.

Oops, I just heard on the news that the Harris fire (near the border) was started by downed power lines. Were both fires (Harris and Witch fires) started the same way?
Summing up some more about the Canyon Country fire:
12,500 acres burned. 10% contained.
400 firefighters on ground now. More expected tomorrow.
Three civilians injured.
One firefighter injured.
Every school in the area is closed.
Trying to save as many structures as possible.
Still doing water drops but on individual firefighter volunteer basis only.
Fire is hopscotching from one neighborhood to the next.
Sustained winds have slowed down a bit, but gusty winds continue.
Tomorrow at 7 a.m., winds expected to be 80-100 mph.
Winds expected to reduce somewhat Tuesday morning but no real slowdown until Thursday through the weekend.
This is probably the best bet ...as they said they were streaming live earlier today...but I don’t have high speed and can’t tell you for sure...but their TV coverage has been better than many with facts vs. histrionics

Down power lines are what caused the Malibu fire.
Now that would be a scary sight. Especially if the truck was leaning your way. I was once driving back from Los Angeles and was in lane number 2 doing about 65 mph on a mildly congested freeway. Then all of a sudden noticed a truck tire traveling in the lane to my right doing about 65 mph, all by itself. Thought about it for a few seconds, and then figured that the tire was gonna go nuts any second and it would not be pretty. So I swerved over to lane 1 and floored it. Figured that the lone tire did not have the ability to speed up. Watched in my rear view mirror as the traffic behind me began to slow down. Then the tire went nuts right near an overpass and bounced all over the place. Did not hit any vehicles that I could tell.
This ain't no tunnel fire. Multiple incidents with extreme wind = FUBAR
