Fair enough but like it or not, Presidential Candidates wifes do attract attention eg Theresa Heinz and thats the way it is. So Fred’s wife is going to draw some scrutiny even though it is not a productive tactic.

So calling her a whore or equating her with a stripper ala Anna Nicole falls under the heading of scrutiny in the Mitt camp.

That's true, but when it's clear that what they're being trashed about has absolutely NOTHING to do with their husbands' policies or what he will do while in office, it's petty, unproductive, and reflective more of the trasher than the Candidate's wife.

If that's true, it is a subversion of the purpose for the investigation. Regardless of where you come down on Watergate, it would have been wrong to turn the focus of the hearings away from Nixon and onto political ethics in general.

Gizzi's accusation is made more troublesome by the fact that Thompson's pet issue was McCain-Feingold-Thompson Campaign Finance Reform which would lead to the appearance that Thompson subverted the purpose of the investigation to turn it into a forum for promoting his personal agenda.

Who, if anyone, was brought before the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee during this investigation to be questioned on matters not related to Chinagate?

Actually the Watergate commission was supposed to be investigating irregularities and actions by multiple campaigns, but it wound up focusing solely on Nixon.
