...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...
At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

I suggest that you have a very weak understanding of sin. It is not sin that makes us sinners, we sin because we are sinners. We are all born dead, blind, and enemies of God. There is absolutely NOTHING that we do that is not tainted with sin. The only person that was without sin was Jesus and that includes Noah, Enoch, and the Virgin Mary. Christianity is not about morality or virtue. Even Pagans can claim those characteristics. Christianity is about the life and salvation given by God in Christ Jesus. It’s a relationship, not a religion.
...about this affair.
Oh my! The drama of it all.
Yawnnnnn.
Yes, I watched the video and heard her interviewed on Steve Malzberg’s show on WOR...
Riddle me this: how can you be a Christian and NOT believe that everyone should convert? Among the tenets of the Christian faith is that anyone outside the faith is going to hell. That should be a sobering and sad thought--one that should make you WANT those outside to come in. These pragmatic issues are where the rubber meets the road in religion (or any belief system, really). If you are a Christian and you care about people, then you will indeed try to convert them. The method is something we may disagree on, but the idea will be the same. So, answer MY question (as I have answered yours twice now): how can you be a Christian and not feel a sense of duty to convert others? Is the fact that the vast majority of the world is going to hell simply not important?
This just is not so and it is not Scriptural. Address this point instead of just tossing Scriptures around that do not pertain to my point.
The scriptures I cited are indeed relevant. To sum up the above, the reasoning is as follows: A member outside the faith is damned->this is not a good, or even a neutral, thing->they should convert and save themselves. I suppose the Great Commission had nothing to do with conversion: "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."" Matthew 28:18-20
"Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me." 1 Corinthians 9:16-17
Then again dont bother. Youll be wasting my time with your reckless use of the Scriptures.
I suppose by reckless you mean literal. Like it or not, that is what the Scriptures say. Accept it, or you are outside of the faith. Is that really such a radical idea? Could you be a Muslim without believing the Koran? Or a Jew (religious, not ethnic) without believing the Talmud?
Fire away Ann.
If the truth hurts, they weren’t Conservatives anyways-there vote would be in question anyways.
I speak as someone with Jewish ancestry. The problem with Judaism as a philosophy or religion is that it is too racially based. Christianity is inclusive and outward-directed in a way that Judaism is not, and will never be.
Coulter’s reaching out to Jewish people — however it is worded — to change religions has a point; let’s acknowledge it and live with it.
“Actually, it was the great commission, to go out and spread the word.”
Salvation comes before the commision. That’s my point. The commision does not apply to non-Christians. If a Christian does not do the commision has no bearing on whether or not they are Christian or not.
I don’t understand the Jews. Why aren’t they fleeing Europe with its grow anti-Semitism? Why do they stay any where where they are hated? Why do they vote liberal as a group? I don’t know. Lack of understanding on my part.
Sure blame Ann for the stupidity of the Republican party, Scape goat. It is to easy to blame Ann for the open border, spend to much, run like democrat party, Republicans. I would give more credit to people like Gov. Arnold or the SCHIP republicans for or problems.
So, what attracts those moderate and independent voters?
It's part of New Testament phraseology.
It sure seemed to me to be the latter, and not about religion, but 'getting' Ann Coulter.
The end result was that Ann made an awkward statement of Christian Doctrine, at best.
If I found a place where we could buy a new (pick one) vehicle at 50% off invoice, no gimmicks, no rip off, why would I not want to share that with my friends? Do not be offended if you don't like the vehicle, remember it was an act of friendship to share that option with you. You choose what you wish to do/believe/live, as is only right.
Many Christians view our faith as our chance to be with God in the afterlife. We have no lifetime of living within Jewish Law, which, as I understand it (please be patient with me, as I know little of Judaism,, and correct me if I am wrong), is the key to being with God in the afterlife in the Jewish Religion.
As Ann tried to say, albeit in her off the wall way, Christianity affords those late to the harvest an option to be justified (perfected) by their faith. It gives a chance to be 'born again', to repent of our sinful ways, and to live eternity in heaven with God through our faith in Jesus Christ. (Like Fed-Ex, when you have to get there overnight).
Wanting to share that faith is not intended as an insult or sleight, nor to imply that Jews cannot go to heaven. (Who started all that, anyway?)
From where I sit this a controversy which has been ginned up through twisting what she was saying, during and after the interview. It is one of the few times I have seen Coulter look surprised.
I can understand that there are sensitivities toward anyone who would decry the Jewish faith, especially after events of the past century and even before, but she is not calling for a pogrom.
YMMV.
Peace.
Do you think there is an objective truth to your beliefs? Or are they just correct for you? If you believed that your truth was objective truth and not just relative truth, would it be wrong to say you were right?
Yes.
Thanks for the link to the video. Nothing beats seeing the original video. She’s great - as usual!
That's 100% correct.
She said in one of her books that at one point one in 10 Americans were members of the Communist party in the 50s. I stated that and my gpa said no way. I looked back at her footnote and it cited a speech hoover gave where he said, for every known communist there are 10 who support them. Since 1 percent of Americans were members of the communist party, she said 10% and cited his speech. It was a horrible distortion and since I don’t have time to fact check everything that looks ‘fishy’ I’ve stopped reading her.
correction, I think she said 1/10 were communists, not members of the communist party.
10 Americans were members of the Communist party in the 50s.
Did she really say members? or did she say memebers and supporters? Which book? That would be interesting to know. I have read all her books and I am a stats freak. I would have like to know what I missed.
Yes, and my point is that she is a Christian first.
I agree. Today the number is at least 40%. I could not have grown so fast in 50 years. It must of been way higher than 10%.
