Ann Coulter is Not Helping

...The issue with Coulter is not whether she can sell books, but whether she helps or hurts the side of the political debate she claims to support. In my opinion, Coulter has never been a big help to the effort to build a conservative and Republican majority. Her most recent comments on the relationship of Christianity to Judaism, made on the CNBC show " The Big Idea" with Donnie Deutsch on Monday of this week , may prove particularly damaging...

At a time when party affiliation is fraying and a third of Americans consider themselves independent, to build a majority of 50% plus one requires persuasion. Independents will not accept all parts of either party's platform or approach but will choose a candidate for office based on which issues matter to them, and whether one or the other party connects with them on those issues. It is a skill to disagree at times without being disagreeable. Ronald Reagan had it, and it is one of the reasons he became so popular and patched together a large winning coalition . Coulter has clearly decided there is no economic advantage for her in this approach...

Criticizing Coulter’s contribution to conservatism, in light of the idiots in Congress on our side of the aisle completely effing it up - not to mention W ramming amnesty down our throat, is, well pathetic.

Gosh ... even though I'm so-so about Ann, I find that to be the most attractive photo of her yet. She looks like a woman (a beautiful woman, no less) instead of a co-ed or a Media Personality. Come on, guys! Don't you recognize a gorgeous female when you see her? Not the skinny thing showing off her legs in short skirts for reasons of her own, but a plain gorgeous no-gimmicks woman? That's what I see in THAT photo. Maturity and a classic whitey-Northern-European loveliness that is rare in whitey Northern-European females.

Incidentally, I agree for the most part with the writer of the original article: Ann (sadly) is at present detrimental to Republican unity in many ways. But that can change, and she's a good and smart girl. And blessed.

now that she says something that is not in agreement suddenly she sucks. Not in my book.

The part that amazes me is that even FReepers seem to be having liberal-style knee-jerk reactions of condemnation to MSM based misquotes of (formerly?) trusted conservative commentators without finding out exactly what was said.

Yep, Ann often walks the razor's edge of commentary with a phrase or part of one which, taken out of context could be offensive in general. I am, however, taken aback at the tendency for alleged conservatives to turn, tusks slashing, at one of our own.

It would speak volumes about those who frequent the site which took down Dan Rather, and lately exposed the Frost Family, if people here would get the facts before going ballistic.

There is always time to have a sh*tfit later.

In this comment are two links, one to a Townhall.com page which has a flash video of the exchange with Donny in its entirety (about halfway down the page), which does not come off quite the same as the transcript segments I have seen posted, and another link to a WOR Radio podcast of a later interview with Ann.

Anyone who is ready to throw Ann under the bus, please do her the courtesy of seeing the video and hearing the interview first. Get some facts, not just liberal agitprop.

After that, it is a free country.

I also see this as part of an ongoing campaign to brand conservative commentary 'hate speech' in time for the 2008 election season. THe Dems are after talk radio as well, and may be after the internet before this is over.

Their campaigns are never so effective as when well meaning, 'shocked and horrified' conservatives turn on their own, while the Dems close ranks about the racists and others in their own camp with impunity.

After the events of the last century in Europe, I, for one, cannot understand how anyone who is Jewish could ever support a candidate who embraces gun control. I would think every home would be an armory.

What you feel, you feel. As I am not Jewish, I do not have your perspective.

I am only asking if you saw the segment video (wait for the part after the commercial break), or heard the later WOR interview.

I just watched the video and I believe that Donny’s hurt and outrage were an act. He seized upon her mentioning the word ‘Christian’ and baited her on it.

She tried to be nice; she said Jews were going to heaven, but that they had to obey the law. That sentiment runs all through the letters of Paul, and (most) Christians believe that Christ came to show a way to God through faith and not law.

I’m not a hard liner on anything in theology ... I’m still learning, but she did state the average Christian position and did so rather sweetly.

I liked her better after seeing the interview.

Amen! If GOP politicians would stand and fight, and state what they believe without spin and hypocrisy, the 2008 GOP primary would decide the presidency and they would still own congress. These mythical centrists y’all are whining about Ann offending would follow anyone who stands up and speaks the truth. Most of them could care less about politics - they just want someone to speak the truth and LEAD.

I was, at first, upset at the claims of what she had said.

Then I recalled numerous incidents in which her words and those of other conservatives had been brutally twisted out of context by liberals, and decided to dig a little deeper.

Stories like this have a way of growing in the MSM, one quotes a derrivative of the original out of context statement or misquote and then they all start quoting each other, chapter and worse. We have seen this sort of feeding frenzy before.

Ann seems to invite it, but you are going to take the most flack when you are close to the target.

Insuring That Media is Liberal Matters

Sounds anecdotal. If Mr. Baehr thinks Jews are going to start voting Republican in massive numbers, I have some acreage on Europa I'm willing to let go for an extremely reasonable price.

Ann helps the cause by being unapologetic and entertaining in her conservatism. I wish we could get our can candidates to behave that way.

My only criticism of Ann is more of a lament or a wish than it is a criticism. I simply wish someone would give the poor lass a sandwich.

Otherwise, Mr. Sinatra's sentiment surely applies to Miss Coulter:

You have captured it precisely. As a Christian it is my call to spread the good news so the Jews, and everybody else, can be “perfected”. It is not a slur and it is not bigotry . . . it is Christian love in action. It is not our job, as Christians, to condemn them if they reject our message, and Ann does not. All of that is in God’s hands when the time comes.

IMHO, a good Christian should be firmly on the side of Jews and Israel. They are still God’s chosen people. I figure Ann believes that, too. Believing and practicing Jews should be our very closest religious brothers. While I am sure some are offended by what Ann said, just as they rightly ask us to understand them, they should try to understand us as well. We are pretty much on the same side.
