Waxman Denies Investigation of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer October 10, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) on Wednesday denied that he is conducting or ever planned to conduct a congressional investigation of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin and called on a conservative magazine to retract its report that he asked investigators to compile information on the popular conservative talk radio hosts.

"The American Spectator report about a congressional investigation into talk radio is completely false," Waxman, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a statement to Cybercast News Service. "There is no investigation."

Waxman was referring to a report Monday that he "has asked his investigative staff to begin compiling reports on Limbaugh, and fellow radio hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin based on transcripts from their shows" to build a case for bringing back the Fairness Doctrine.

When asked if there had been ideas or plans to compile reports on the talk radio hosts, a spokesman for Waxman said, "No, there were not."

In his statement, Waxman called on the Spectator to "immediately retract the item and apologize for the confusion its fictitious report has caused."

Limbaugh came under fire from Democrats recently when he used the term "phony soldiers" in setting up discussion about Jesse Macbeth, an anti-war activist who was sentenced to five months in prison for falsifying his military records.

intimidate and gag Rush Limbaugh and other popular radio personalities who disagree with the Liberal line.

Well that worked well.

I notice that all three hosts names end with a letter greater than “G”. I guess that means Hillary doesn’t have their FBI files in the A-G collection she kept from the Clinton White House years...

I see Sandy Berger, master criminal thief has just been hired on the Hillary political team. Since 9/11 haven’t the American people suffered enough without more political thuggery?

Maybe someone in his staff said it because they thought it was true? Waxman really doesn’t have a dog in the fight since he didn’t vote in the last Fairness Doctrine Resolution.

Waxman represents Hollywood, as I recall, and although an opponent of the US tobacco industry 1) He never ever complained about the effect of movies encouraging young people to smoke and 2) His largest campaign donor, at one time, was the chief lobbyist or importer of Chinese made cigarettes (suggesting his real goal was to put US tobacco industry out of business so the Chinese would have total market).

“Just because Waxman isn’t doing it doesn’t mean it isn’t being done.”

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

I am not in favor of ad hominem attacks but I am compelled to say that every time I see a picture of Henry Waxman I think of the “bar scene” in Starwars.

Pelosi and Reid need to share in this Marxist plot to deny Freedom of Speech to conservatives.

“Agreed, Waxman has provided no evidence whatsoever that the Spectator story was in error in any important regard.”

Does anyone have a link to the first story that was in the American Spectator? Can’t seem to find it. Thanks!

Not many people know this, but Henry Waxman had a cameo in the original "Star Trek" series, playing the Tellarian ambassador. Gene Roddenberry remarked at how little makeup Waxman required...

His staff should be ashamed of their monitoring of free speech and all the other nanny state ideas they try to push. That is not what I pay my taxes for.

It is not necessary to “force” Waxman to lie. He does it for free and without queue all the time.

Waxman has a problem ~ no matter how wide his stance the truckdrivers who stop at the rest-stop in Manassas Virginia just pass him by every single time.
