"If he wants to call up and apologize again, that's ok with me. But I'm not going to dance to anybody's tune."

That's my guy.

It is amazing how Freeprs will believe the MSM when it supports their agenda.

Pick one:

Dobson says: Thompson not a Christian

Rush: Phony Solider's

Well, now you believe USWN&R writer Dan Gilgoff and how he quotes Dobson.

Here is a quote from Mr Gilgoff:

"The success of the effort is by no means ensured; in March, Focus on the Family's James Dobson told U.S. News that he doubted Thompson was really a Christian. But Dobson and Thompson have since talked, with Dobson rumored to be reassessing Thompson. And prominent social conservative Paul Weyrich, who met recently with Thompson and evangelical activists, said the former senator "was in agreement with us on almost everything." source

Is this true or was Fred a liar last night?

It is nothing short of amazing that this thread is filled with Conservative Christian bashing all from a USWN&R story based on a phone call. I'll Take Dobsons word over Dan Gilgoff and not bash him over a "leaked" email either. But some folks refuse to see the agenda here to discredit the Christian conservatives in the the next election.

Instead, there are too many Freepers who are willing to help the left.

Dobson should fight with candidates that are liberals, like Rudy and Hillary, not the other ones like Fred etc.

I love this guy's straight answers. IMO Dobson has lost a lot of good will over Fred Thompson. At this point I suspect that Dobson's influence on this election is going to be nil.

Many Catholic Republicans are supporting Giuliani despite his heretical positions on a number of issues. It would be interesting to know just how many of these “Catholics” actually attend mass weekly. Regardless Thompson holds closer to Catholic/Christian principles than any candidate other the Brownback. To me, the order of selection goes Brownback, Thompson, Hunter, McCain.

If the Hildebeast had this question, all you would hear was her maniacal laughter. Fred Thompson will connect with the voter on a level that is light years away from the herd and will be elected President of the United States.

Dobson’s proclamation that Thompson isn’t a Christian should be something that all people condemn. Dobson is literally playing God, and it is pure foolishness for someone with absolutely NO theological training to make such statements. If people are concerned with state fascism, they should be even more concerned about religious fascism. Dobson falls into that category.
Neither Dobson nor I know what Thompson’s relationship with God is, and if Thompson says that he is a Christian, who is Dobson to say that he isn’t?
Dobson has been very good on the issues of abortion and family values, and I suggest that he remain with those issues. We don’t need another pope.

I wish Fred were a better Christian. But frankly, I still prefer him to any of the Rudy McRomney weak sisters.

Of course, Duncan Hunter is still my man...

No one ever said Fred wasn’t a Christian... Just that they’d seen no evidence of it. Why does the Ron Paul conspiracy vibe seem to be invading the ranks of Thompson supporters? When someone purposefully distorts someone else’s plain-spoken comments in an attempt to trump up more support for their candidate, I become suspicious.

Good for Thompson. I respect Dobson, but he is way off base here and he sounds like nothing more than the “all or nothing conservatives” that are destined to give the Democrats reign of the government in 2009 and beyond.

It is this type of thinking that needs to stop and stop now.

I’m not necessarily supporting Thompson, but in this, Mr Dobson needs to remember that he’s not Christ and therefore does not make the decision on who and who is not a Christian.

Dobson has an ego problem....too big! He is a name dropper. He speaks publicly too often. He has become an embarassment to believers just as Pat Robertson has. His organization represents many righteous causes......he just needs to button his lip when reporters are around!

I don't like the (take a hike add on to this) Fred did not say it in that way.

"If he wants to call up and apologize again, that's ok with me. But I'm not going to dance to anybody's tune." That's my guy.

This...he did say.

Dobson lost my respect when he “forgived” serial scumbag Newt Gingrich, and then went and bashed Thompson.

Make no mistake about it, these candidates and influential political activist leaders who threaten to not support the Party’s nominee are playing political extortion to gain policy concessions or angle for a key appointment. They know very well that if they succeed in pulling away even a moderate fraction of voters from the Republican presidential candidate (and down-ballot Republican candidates that benefit from straight ticket votes), they likely will had the Democrats the win, since recently the margin of victory in many elections is within a few percent.

A true Republican or conservative would not willingly hand power over to liberal Democrats, who are guaranteed to work against our values. Political suicide is not in our nature, nor condoned in our religious teachings, nor consistent with our Constitution. Leave the futile political statements to those not fortified with a higher purpose.
