Oklahoma Teen Bitten Between Legs By K9 Cop

By Russell Carter

KFOR/NBC News Channel

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- Oklahoma City police are facing allegations of brutality, after a 15-year-old boy claims officers used a K-9 to help arrest him and then bite him between his legs.

15-year-old Mark Adkins is now facing several charges after taking a joy ride in stolen car and getting into a short pursuit with police in southwest Oklahoma city. But along with the charges he's now facing an uphill battle with his health after being captured by a K-9 officer that tore away flesh along with his scrotum.

Mark says "the doctors told me they didn't think they would be able to stitch me back together."

Mark's mother, Michelle, says "he was in trauma for 7 to 9 days and I've just never seen anything like this done to a minor."

Capt. Steve McCool of the Oklahoma City Police Department says "obviously they're not trained to bite in this particular area of the body."

Officers say Mark was not handcuffed when the dog attacked, and claim the animal was just doing what it was trained to do.

Capt. Steve McCool says "you had the officer on top of the individual, they're on the ground, the guy's resisting, the dog is trying to assist the handler with this aggressive behavior the best he can."

Mark says "I can't explain how painful it was. It was like being tied up and eaten alive."

But Mark says he was no longer resisting. His mother now hopes legal action will help the police admit they were wrong.

Michelle says "there are some good officers out there and there are some bad ones, but I think in order to clean it up let these officers take responsibility for what they do to the public."

Police are still investigating the incident and as of Thursday, neither the dog nor his handler has faced any disciplinary action.

neither the dog nor his handler has faced any disciplinary action.

The dog, however, did have to get a rabies shot and a tooth-cleaning.

There are a LOT of 15 year olds in this country that can scare the hell out of any sensible cop. It doesn’t say how big this kid is, but the fact that he resisted arrest to the point of fighting the officer when the k9 was present is a pretty clear indication that he was a tough customer.

The bottom line is that if you don’t turn yourself in and you resist arrest and there is a k9 there, you are going to get bit. Stupid kid got what he deserved, and the happy story here is that the cop, the k9 and all of the innocent civilians that were threatened by this kid are OK.

Check out the pic that goes along with the article. He looks black to me, but I could be wrong.

I think Chris Rock said it best:

"Remember, if the police have to come and get you, they're bringing an ass-kicking with them!"

Oh, it's just a little "joyful" ride in a stolen vehicle and just a tiny weeny pursuit to evade the police.

Give that dog a bone!

Is the kid black, or are you just assuming?

Since nobody else was polite enough to answer in a timely manner...

From the picture at the link, yes; he is black.

My husband is a Deputy Sheriff and he had the following comments on the issue.

1. The officers are trained to not to bite, they leave that to the the puppy.

2. The dogs always bite the first thing offered to them. thats why in police training videos the person is running with their arm behind them, so the dog gets the arm, not the butt.

3. K9 - patrol doggie style

When I was a kid my uncle, a cop, had a retired police dog named Bear, a german shepard.

What I remember most is how that dog loved to pull on stuff and would even tug on the wooden seat on the merry go round to move it when we sat on it.

A very intelligent dog, and friendly, but I never forgot how much wood went flying out from under those jaws while he was “playing”

I’d sure hate to be on the wrong end of those .....

if the kid was not breaking the law, the K9 unit would not have been called in. its called personal responsibility...something this kid and his mother obviously do not understand. he broke the law, the K9 unit was used, he lost his manhood. sucks to be him. maybe next time he will not steal a car and lead the cops on a chase.
