My husband is a Deputy Sheriff and he had the following comments on the issue.

1. The officers are trained to not to bite, they leave that to the the puppy.

2. The dogs always bite the first thing offered to them. thats why in police training videos the person is running with their arm behind them, so the dog gets the arm, not the butt.

3. K9 - patrol doggie style

When I was a kid my uncle, a cop, had a retired police dog named Bear, a german shepard.

What I remember most is how that dog loved to pull on stuff and would even tug on the wooden seat on the merry go round to move it when we sat on it.

A very intelligent dog, and friendly, but I never forgot how much wood went flying out from under those jaws while he was “playing”

I’d sure hate to be on the wrong end of those .....
