Right before Giuliani took his "impromptu" call during the NRA speech, he was discussing the second amendment. However, when discussing the second amendment's language, he mistakenly began to paraphrase the fourth amendment instead! Then he answered the phone and changed the subject. Here's the transcript, followed by the video:
"After all the second amendment is a freedom every bit as important as the other freedoms in the first ten amendments. Just think of the language of it -- 'the people shall be secure' --let's see, this is my wife calling..."
(talks to and about his wife)
(then he resumes with a subject change) "...but the parking decision offers an excellent example..."

Giuliani forgetting the second amendment in his big NRA speech is a giant SNAFU. In the media attention over the call itself, let's see if this part of the story gets any mention.
Ditto. Better advice could never be given.
Rooty is lying liberal scum.
K-Lo has your email on the Corner.
It “may” hurt him?
First, I absolutely believe that the phone call was not from his wife and I never really believed it from the git go.
However I could not figure what would prompt one of his staff or a somebody somewhere evidently charged with monitoring Mr. G on a special cell phone he evidently carries for just such an event.
That bit about Rudy going on using fourth ammendment wording when talking about the second ammendment, that’s EXACTLY correct. I mean the second ammendment is pretty damn important when speaking in front of the NRA, ya think?
What frosts me as a member of the public he treated like fools by urinating upon our feet and telling us its raining is the audacity of such a thing.
For sure he carries that special cell phone for just such an “emergency” don’t tell me not. Then he stands in front of the world and grins like a chimpanzee, telling us idiots that it’s his wife on the other end.
I’m mad as hell. Let this get out and you watch the entire electorate get mad.
People don’t like being treated like they are fools and idiots. This stunt put Rudy G way at the bottom of anybody I’d ever cast a vote for...just for being so audacious.

bump for AM read
He probably doesn’t even know what the 2A says.
STOP RUDY 2008 PING!
I continue to be amazed at Giuliani’s support among some in the GOP, so I can’t even feel completely confident in predicting that getting the RKBA wrong in front of the NRA would definitively sink him. However, I have a hard time believing that even his relatively staunch supporters (who may not care about the second amendment) could excuse revelations that he has aides calling him during speeches to correct his screw-ups.
If it comes out that that’s what he’s doing, he’s sunk. It’s certainly beyond suspicious that he happened to receive this call at the precise moment that he was putting his foot in it in a huge way. He’s already proved himself to be every bit as shameless as the ‘toons when it comes to lying and spin, so I wouldn’t put it past him.
I guess what's really worse is that people believe them!
FWIW...
Family was there for the event and speech. They thought the stunt “fell flat”. Not much was mentioned about it during the VIP Party after the speeches. They had a “funny feeling” about it.
He came running to the table today with the newspaper picture with “just too big a smile” picture of Rudy. His comment: “I thought something was funny about it”!
When I told them about the FR comments they were again approving of our quick observations!
FR is the BEST!!
I bet they call it the “nuclear” option, that little trick.
Heh. Like...the gaff then upon is so bad that an unplanned cell phone call can’t make it any worse.
I’m serious here. As Rudy the G’s campaign stooges yank and pull the strings that would have us, the public, kept in the dark and bullshit like the mushrooms they think we are.
Now for all my disgust, hey, maybe ALL the candidates have this little trick. For all I know Romney might have a special cell number that, once again, would only be used in a “nuclear” incident.
Although this is the SECOND time ole Rudy’s taken a call whilst giving a speech? Heh.
Fool me oncit shame on you. Fool me twicit, shame on me.
I swear I didn’t believe that wife-is-calling story but I didn’t know. I thought maybe there was a family emergency...something really serious, once of his kids got in a car accident, something like that. But hand to God I did not believe a person would take a cell phone call while giving a speech.
They really must think we are idiots. Them thinking we’re idiots makes me madder.
I predict poop will hit the fan over this Monday. Just a hunch.
Rudy’s a moron.
Im pro-choice. Im pro-gay rights, Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. No, I have not supported that, and I dont see my position on that changing, he responded. RUDY GIULIANI (R), FORMER MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY: I'm pro- choice. I'm pro-gay rights.KING: Giuliani supports a woman's right to an abortion, and back in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.
GIULIANI: No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing.
KING: Immigration could be another presidential landmine. Back in 1996, Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.
JEFFREY: He took the side of illegal immigrants in New York City against the Republican Congress.
KING: Giuliani opposes same-sex marriage but as mayor, he supported civil unions and extending health and other benefits to gay couples. He also supported the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association.
GIULIANI: I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.
Republican Big-Wigs Support Pro-Abortion Event in NY
Pro-abortion Governor George Pataki and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who also supports unrestricted abortion, are co-chairs of the 2000 Choice Award Presentation to be held on May 30 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The event is sponsored by the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition, a group that is campaigning for the removal of the pro-life plank from the Republican National Platform.

The Empire State Building is such an important landmark... such an important symbol of America that, like so many other places in New York City, when a tragedy happens there, it receives a great deal of attention in the media.

Because of this transformation of perception, when this latest tragedy occurred, instead of having to defend New York City, we were able to focus national attention on the real problem, which is GUN CONTROL (emphasis mine).

Silly Cell Phone Guy calls for GUN CONTROL!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!
