FBI suppressed video of TWA explosion
Recovered debris from TWA 800 |

More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown him likely by accident one seriously smoking gun.
The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney details a communication that took place six days after the crash:
"The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before."

Anyone care to follow up on this? You blow the front off that plane, and it loses the power control to the fuel pumps, and as much fuel as those engines need to run there’s no way on God’s Green Earth they will keep pushing the plane up. The CIA LIED. The FBI LIED. To say nothing of our vaunted MSM and their ‘investigative’ journalism.
Missile or bomb — both make more sense than the center fuel tank fiasco.
Some conspiracies are real. Calling something a conspiracy doesn't automatically make the claim kooky, just as it doesn't automatically make the claim true.
Is he still around? I haven’t seen his “there is no terrorism” routine in years. I thought he went away with JohnHK (who hasn’t really gone away at all).
Whoa... something involving two or more people? How outrageous! Only a certifiable nutcase could believe that two or more people could actually plan some sort of wrongdoing.
Seriously, these knee-jerk deniers need to buy themselves a new word.
We’ve had terrorist attacks since 9-11-2001 in America.
The anthrax mailings
The LAX Air Israel counter shooting
The Tampa Teen Kamekazi
The DC Sniper Duo
The guy who blew himself up outside the football stadium in Oklahoma
The Seattle Jewish Community Center shooting
The Utah mall shooting
The “Florida” Egyptian and Pakistani college kids who were apprehended in South Carolina with bomb materials (and jihadist training films they produce on their computer)
Additionally we’ve had 2 Americans convicted of training for jihad with Al Qaida AFTER the 9-11 attacks (both convicted this year, one in Texas, one in California).
Thwarted plots include blowing up the Brooklyn Bridge and the dirty bomb attack.
At the time, the authorities denied many of these were terrorist acts (including the Tampa Teen even when they held his suicide note which specifically called them terrorist acts and made a bomb threat against the Super Bowl).
Our government has been proven to lie about terrorist strikes when they happen on US soil. Keep us calm.
This is not to say that everything is an act of terrorist or requires a larger conspiracy plotting the action. I’m just pointing out that the government has routinely lied in such matters.
Not to worry folks, I ajm little over half way through with NIGHTFAÑLL, written by Nelson DeMille about this same subject. By tomorrow I should be able to tell you what and who blew up TWA800.
Could the terrorist who is responsible for this be coming to speak at Columbia University?
We moved 3 years ago, so I know it’s in this house,I’ve watched it since we got here. I just looked and found the Peggy Noonan C-Span Stuff I have, and when my wife gets in here tonight I’ll ask her to find this. I paid $60-80.00 for it back around 2000 and it was well worth it. He was so damn concerned about NOT jumping to conclusions, the dirty S.O.B.
I just did a cursory search on C-Span Archives and didn’t come up with it, but found his words from the press conference which are below. When we find it on this property, and I will, we’ll get that online for the world to see and I’ll ping you. It’s short:
Remarks on the Aircraft Tragedy in East Moriches, New York, and an Exchange With Reporters
July 18th, 1996
The President: I’d like to say a few words about the crash last night. First, on behalf of the American people, I want to say to the families of the passengers of Flight 800, [xiv]1 we are well aware that only the passage of time, the love of your family, and faith in God can ease your pain, but America stands with you. Our thoughts, our prayers have been with your through the night, and they will be with you in the days to come.
Our Government is doing everything we can to continue the search for survivors and to find out the causes of this accident. The Chief of Staff, Leon Panetta, has just met in the White House Situation Room with all the agencies involved and has finished briefing me on our response. I’ve asked him to ensure that our response will continue to be prompt, effective, and comprehensive.
Right now the Coast Guard, the National Transportation Safety Board, the FAA, and the FBI are on the scene of the crash. As of now, no survivors have been found. Hundreds of rescue personnel rushed to help in pitch dark, lit only by the flames of burning wreckage. And I want to thank them for their brave work in these treacherous waters on behalf of the people who were on that flight.
We do not know what caused this tragedy. I want to say that again; we do not know as of this moment what caused this tragedy. We are beginning the painstaking process of piecing together what happened. Additional briefings to provide the latest details of what is being done will be coordinated by the Department of Transportation and will be given to you on a regular basis. We will determine what happened. But for now, I want to caution again the American people against jumping to any conclusions and ask that today, overwhelmingly, our people remember the families of the people who are on that flight in their prayers.
Thank you very much.
Q. Are you worried that it is terrorism?
Q. Mr. President, are you doing anything further on the issue of airline safety? Are you ordering any steps today, any action that you think might be warranted?
The President. Terry [Terence Hunt, Associated Press], I want to wait, first of all, until we at least get further along in this investigation. I think we need to focus on this investigation now.
Q. Are you worried, sir, that there is some kind of increase in terrorism in this country now? And what are you doing to try to get at least in position to combat that, if it is the reason for this crash?
The President. Well, we are doing a number of things continuously to try to continue to upgrade the safety of our infrastructure and the ability of the United States to protect itself from terrorism. That’s one of the reasons I pushed so hard for the antiterrorism legislation.
But I want to caution the American people; we have no evidencewe have no evidence on this flight yet that would indicate the cause of the accident. And I want to remind you that when we had the terrible tragedy in Oklahoma City, a lot of people immediately concluded that this must have been done by some force outside our country, and it appears that that was not the case now. So let’s wait until we see the evidence. We are working hard on this.
I just spoke with Mayor Giuliani and Governor Pataki, who are most concerned right now with the victims and seeing that the families get notified quickly, and we’re working on that with them. But they said that they were quite confident that the Federal people who were on the ground were doing everything they could. They are very, very good at piecing these things together, and we need to let them do their work and not jump to any conclusions.
Q. Giuliani was quite critical of the management of TWA, Mr. President
Q. How would you characterize
The President. One at a time.
Q. Mr. President, how would you characterize the various phone calls of individuals claiming so-called responsibility that have come into various news organizations and law enforcement authorities?
The President. Well, I wouldn’t characterize them yet. Again, it’s hard to know. You know, sometimes such calls are accurate; sometimes such calls are attempting to ride along on a tragedy. And therefore I believe we should wait for the evidence. We will find out what happened. Let’s wait for the evidence.
Q. Mr. President, Mayor Giuliani was quite critical of the senior management of TWA, which he said was inadequately staffing the situation there last night. He praised the Federal effort. Have you guys any indication that the airline is not doing all it could, or have you spoken with the airline, have the Federal authorities spoken with the airline about
The President. Well, let me say, last nightI stayed up until a little past midnight last night, but I was depending more on you all than anything else, once I got my preliminary reports. And then this morning I’ve been more concerned with making sure we were doing our job. So this issue with TWA and the notification of families has just been presented to me. We will do what we can. I can’t believe the airline doesn’t want to do the right thing. They may beyou know, everybody, when something like this happens, may be a little bit in shock at the moment. We’ll look into that and see whether there’s anything we can do.
But I have noagain, the main thing I want to say to the American people today is, we are working overtime on this. Do not jump to conclusions. Let’s wait until we get the facts, and let’s remember the families. Thank you.”
“Was it George Stephanopolis who said on television that when the missle hit TWA800 they all went to the situation room of the White House? Someone else from the Clinton White House also said something similar.”
President Clinton was giving a speech at 8:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Washington in D.C. So I’m not sure who “they all” would be.
I agree with you papasmurf (ducks for cover)
Me, too. It happened so soon after routine air service resumed following 9/11 that when it happened, I knew it wouldn’t be connected to terrorism because that would have decimated the airline industry more than it had been, and made Americans even more paranoid and fearful. I think it was a cover-up, but a necessary one.
I keep hearing about a streak of flame approaching TWA-800. This is not commensurate with a MANPAD.
This jihadi propaganda video of an SA-7 launch in Afghanistan refutes that claim. Also, the claim that most of the flight of such a missile is "coasting" *upwards* defies the physical laws of ballistics. Aerodynamic drag and gravity limits the height of low powered projectiles, and only high powered antiaircraft artillery like the German 88mm flak guns can reach a significant altitude. Nothing that a human can hold and fire can reach a significant altitude if the projectile is entirely, or almost entirely, ballistic in nature rather than self powered for the majority of the flight time.
“They may beyou know, everybody, when something like this happens, may be a little bit in shock at the moment.”
Gee. Like President Bush when he was told about the Twin Towers?
Naw, the Feds are up front with the American people...They would never hide anything...
Agreed.
Also, it was also less than four months until the presidential election so Clinton surely didn’t want anything other than “accident” as a news story.
Islamism.
I hope they finally also bring out all the evidence there was regarding another person - Arabic looking - involved in the Oklahoma bombing.
Clinton never seemed to want his fun being the leader of the world - in his eyes - to be interfered with by having to take on some heavy work.
Then too, one could wonder = since they weren't adverse to taking big money from foreign sources - who knows where additional foreign sources may have been?
I do believe the clintooons will have a lot to answer for one day///too bad so many of us have had/are answering for their actions - or lack thereof - for years.
Oddly enough, I really admire his intellect, warm personality, and out of the box thinking.
