Analyzing Fred Thompson's Strong Rasmussen Poll Numbers
Blogs For Fred Thompson ^ | September 18, 2007 | brkcmo

There is an excellent analysis article over at Elephant Biz that deals with why Fred Thompson leads in the Rasmussen Poll and has showed larger gains there than in other polls. The short answer is that Rasmussen uses much heavier "screening" of the people they poll, in order to get the views of true "likely Republican voters". Check out this interesting quote from the article.......

If 75%+ of the electorate howled in outraged and forced the US Senate to try and pass their amnesty in secret, what makes you think that a pro amnesty candidate has any chance of winning an election?

I don't know about you, but I just want a candidate that understands national security and not only wants our borders secured and our current immigration laws enforced, but actually gets WHY we are opposed to comprehensive immigration reform and isn't afraid to say it.

I want a candidate that understands the second amendment and not only understands the importance of appointing conservative judges to stop judicial tyranny, but also understands how precious life is.

I want a candidate that won't pander to European socialists and is willing to tell the Mexican government how things are, as well as being willing to actually say how useless the UN is.

I also feel it is extremely important to nominate a candidate that can articulate conservatism in a way that everyone can understand, to counter the demagoguery of the left. I like a candidate who can explain why tax cuts are good for our economy and can show man-made global warming for the joke that it is. It would be refreshing to see a candidate explain why we should back Israel and make damn sure Iran never gets a nuke.

Wouldn't it be great to have a candidate that see's CAIR for what it is? Even better to have a candidate that calls out Democrats for being the defeatist losers that they are.

While we're dreaming the impossible dream and looking for this perfect candidate, I'd also like to throw in that I would love to nominate a candidate who can use the new media to his advantage and get around old media liberal bias.

I don't know where we'd ever find such a candidate, but if we can find him, we'll do well in 2008. :) Plus, the other guys are either congressmen with no personality or gungrabbing, abortion supporting medicine socializers.

I don’t think John McCain has a chance of winning the nomination.

I met Duncan Hunter at the Freedom Concert. He is a great man, and I very much admire him. Unfortunately, he will not catch on this year.

Instead of hearing you give us Fred’s position and label him as pro-amnesty, let us hear his words:

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Former Senator Fred D. Thompson... [Rich Lowry]

... today released the following statement regarding the immigration bill currently pending in the United States Senate: “With this bill, the American people are going to think they are being sold the same bill of goods as before on border security. We should scrap this bill and the whole debate until we can convince the American people that we have secured the borders or at least have made great headway.”

05/17 07:47 PM

You are not going to get away with mischaracterizing him.

This poll is suspect as it has McCain still at 14% which is way to high IMHO.

From Thompson's web site:

Immigration

The United States is a nation of immigrants. Throughout our history, legal immigrants have brought energy, ideas, strength, and diversity to our country, our economy, and our culture. This must continue. But in the post-9/11 world, immigration is more of a national security issue. A government that cannot secure its borders and determine who may enter and who may not, abrogates a fundamental responsibility. I am committed to:

-Securing our borders and enforcing immigration laws. Amnesty is not an option and the toleration of “sanctuary cities” must end.

-Reviewing our immigration laws and policies to ensure they advance our national interests.

-Uniting Americans by welcoming legal immigrants willing to learn English, assimilate into our communities, and become productive citizens.

"...you're going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship..."

- Fred Thompson, April 2006, Fox News

As we well know, nobody who supports Amnesty actually states "I'm in favor of amnesty." Even Bush, in his support of the Kennedy amnesty, vehemently denied that it was such. So Fred's statement that he opposes amnesty means little. What would be the approrpriate antidote to the above quote which indicates that he supports citizenship for illegals is a statement that he doesn't, and supports deportation.

The Duncan “D’oh!” nuts seem to need to lie to attack the front-runner.

Maybe you should start with the other 5 or 6 candidates that are below the front-runner, and above your guy. You won’t have to lie to make them look like RINOs or losers.

That’s what we have now:

RINOs Losers, and Fred. (”Oh my!”)

You may want to ask why you find yourself in the position of smearing a candidate who opposes citizenship for illegals in order to try and prop up a candidate who supports it.

More dishonest rhetoric from a Duncan “d’oh!” nut.

Buzz off, creep. And if you want to call what I wrote a “smear,” I expect you to have the balls to QUOTE IT.
