I’m surprised they call it family flight when what they really mean is “breeder” flight.
“Leaving” is now a Hate Crime.
Haha. But there aren't gerbils in California, at least legally. They're prohibited (dangerous for the agriculture industry).
Simple solution.
Just redefine “family” to mean “any mammal.”
Problem solved.
Stunned it didn’t occur to them.
Another one for the “persistent, stupid decisions have bad consequences” file.
This scenario coming soon to towns like Scottsdale, Arizona, which recently announced that it wanted to be more “gay friendly.”
I just moved into San Francisco after living in its suburbs for 34 years. I'm only a part-time resident because I work in the city - my real home now is in Las Vegas, NV. But these are my observations:
1) I see plenty of families with young children in and around South Beach, which is the new "hot" neighborhood near AT&T Park. They may not stay long-term, however, because everybody wants that pastoral myth of a white picket fence, and San Francisco is too small and cramped to offer that. Also, government schools are bad (as in every other city), so when the kids get to school age, people who can't afford private school move out.
2) I continue see way too many bums, but most of them are harmless and keep to themselves...and basically the exact same guys I've seen shuffling around downtown for the last ten years.
3) Gavin Newsom is the conservative candidate in the Mayoral race compared to the real Communists who are running against him. For better or worse, he will cruise to reelection later this year. He may not be the second coming of JFK that Democrats were hoping for a few years ago, but people do vote for the prettiest candidate - and the collection of trolls on the Board of Supervisors make Newsom look like Brad Pitt by comparison.
4) There is so much money in San Francisco going into new commercial and residental construction and retail ventures that it kind of overwhelms the Marxist radical subculture, which gets media attention far beyond its actual power and impact. Developers really run the city, and ultimately get whatever they want.
5) "Gay power" is tremendously overrated - even here, I doubt they are more than 10% of the population...and though they talk big they don't run things. What the city does have is far too many typical corrupt Democrats, cloaking themselves in the cause-of-the-month when their only real interest is to stay employed. Making San Francisco no different than any other major city, in that regard...
6) The FR caricature of San Francisco is way off the mark - it's like looking through the wrong end of the telescope, fueled by anecdotal stories by people who visited once and think that makes them experts. San Francisco is still one of the best places in the world to live, and it could be truly great again if it ever had a government that understood that the homeless are not victims, but perpetrators.
7) If I have to be in the Bay Area at all, I would rather live in San Francisco than any of the suburbs, which in my experience are filled with pretentious, unfriendly white liberals who can't quite afford their mortgage and Range Rover payments simultaneously, and thus take their frustrations out on everyone else in their vicinity. ;)
Haha. They're legal in San Fransicko. It's a "sanctuary city".
As a one time bay area resident, I can tell you... there is not enough gold in the world for me to ever remotely contemplate raising my children in the cess pool that is San Francisco.
The gerbil part made my laugh....Thanks.

Could be God’s put it in their hearts to leave for the protection of their children, even if they don’t realize it.
Turn your city into a cesspool, and people who don’t like living in cesspools leave. Imagine that.
In case you didn’t see it, ping.
Nothing would surprise me these days.
When too much satire is too hard to distinguish from reality; I can’t imagine this world has much longer to go.
I appreciate your comment. I have my reason, though I'm not sure if it can be considered good & sound.
Simply: I'm from here, and I won't be run off, no matter what, by what amounts to a cluster of sick-brained interlopers. There is nothing in the soil here that makes it more suitable for one type of person, less for another. People leave here all the time, saying what a cesspool it's become in SF, but in the same breath condemn illegals for coming here rather than fixing their own countries. SF will be great again, and I want to be a part of that.
And we are friendly and only slightly pretentious!
I can truly respect that. You'd make a damn fine Texan.
Hmmm... Was this the same mayor that that declared one day Gay Porn Day in “honor” of the gay porn industry in San Francisco? I certainly wouldn’t want to raise a family there.
