Sparse Schedule for Thompson on Trail

LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 15 — At his second campaign stop of the day on Friday, just after 2 p.m., Fred D. Thompson was deep into a riff on the benefits of high-quality American health care.

“It’s allowing us to live healthier lives and to live longer,” Mr. Thompson said at a Jaycee park here. “That’s good news. But we have more retired folks. I hope to become one of them one of these days.”

Nervous laughter from the audience.

“Not too soon,” he added hastily.

So much for dispelling the idea that he is too lazy to run for president...

His critics, already pointing to what they call Mr. Thompson’s skimpy Senate record, might find even more ammunition in his campaign schedule... Mr. Thompson has made a languid three-day swing through Florida ending Saturday. The pace has kept him on a jumbo air-conditioned bus far more often than he is actually campaigning.

Since Thursday morning, when the tour began, Mr. Thompson has made no more than three campaign stops a day, with long stretches in between. In recent spins through Iowa, he kept a similarly relaxed schedule. Mitt Romney, by comparison, often does six town-hall-style forums a day when in Iowa...

But once off the bus, Mr. Thompson has shown occasional signs of discomfort. In a speech here on Friday, he sweated profusely under the afternoon sun, breathed heavily and, while struggling over a question, asked no one in particular if his microphone was on. (It was.)

Some audience members winced as Mr. Thompson sweated through the question-and-answer session.

“I’m surprised they didn’t pull him out of there,” said John Chambers of nearby Punta Gorda, after the speech ended. Suzanne Miranda, who watched the event from a lawn chair, said, “I felt bad for him...”

Have you seen the video of Romney being questioned about his stance on abortion when he was running for Gov. of MA? Whoa! I don’t have the link, but perhaps someone can point you in that direction. It’s a real eye opener.

Don't you realize that's a picture of a man that is just doing this because he's wanting the glory and he is going to pull out of the race soon anyway after claiming that he's "given it his best shot, yada-yada-yada"..?

This is the man who is so ill he'd rather spend his remaining hours on Earth out on the hot campaign trail amongst a bunch of strangers than spend quality time with his children and trophy wife.

This must all be absolutely true, because we've been ASSURED of it by posters on this very forum as not only representative of rational thought, but gospel truth donchaknow. Do all of the Christian churches from Catholic to Southern Baptists call the Church of Christ a cult?

Do you even know how many Christian denominations there are in the world? Do you know how many different Catholic Denominations there are? How about the number of different Baptist denominations? Eastern Orthodox?

As much as some of you like to believe otherwise, YOU do not get to decide which churches meet with Christ's approval, he does. You need to concern yourself with your soul and whether or not Jesus would approve of your judgment of people who worship him differently than you.

And if you are addle as to think there really is only one "right" way to worship Jesus, you should be very concerned that the chances of your particular church being the only right one out of many thousands is very, very slim.

I considered it, but I figured you’d accuse me of tattling. Since I’m not posting ABOUT Jim Robinson and the forum as you are, and only mentioned him in referencing back to your original complaint regarding Jim and FR, your attempt at comparing the two posts falls short.

Yeah, I have seen it. His speech when he ran for Senate in 1994 is probably the one you’re referring to, though.

That’s the one where he openly call himself a defender of the right to abortion. In 2002 when he ran for Governor, you can see his stance has changed. It’s where he says he is personally opposed to abortion but would uphold the status quo with regards to Mass’ abortion laws.

Frankly, I’d have a hard time going from 1994 to 2007 without 2002 inbetween. It just goes to show that he’s matured over the years with regards to life.

It’s a view that I can sympathize with, having changed my mind on the issue, as well—a stance that took several years to reach fruition.

Nope. But I’ve helped educate several women in our clinic that abortion might not be the best way of dealing with their problems. And I may very well be placed in a position where I may have to refuse abortion training.

Yep. I’ve seen that one on multiple occasions. The one that’s made 13-years ago. I’ve also seen his speech in 2002 in which he says he’s personally pro-life but grudgingly agrees to uphold the status quo in Mass. And I’ve seen him wrestle with the issue to where he is in 2007. Being once pro-choice/abort myself, I know the struggles one goes through in making that conversion. It’s not an overnight thing.

The law seems pretty inconsequential to me. This is a constitution issue in my eyes.

“Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

I’m not too worried about conveniences or the minutiae. This is a much bigger issue in my eyes than one of practicalities. This is a Constitutional issue and the foundation of our republic—the deprivation of life in our most vulnerable and innocent of states.
