Pope blasts Europeans for not having enough children

MARIAZELL, Austria (AFP) — Pope Benedict XVI blasted Europeans for being selfish and not having enough children, in a sermon on Saturday at the 850-year-old pilgrimage site of Mariazell in Austria.

"Europe has become child-poor. We want everything for ourselves and place little trust in the future," the pope told a crowd of faithful from his canopied area at an open-air mass that took place under heavy rain.

But Benedict held out hope, saying: "The earth will be deprived of a future only when the forces of the human heart and of reason illuminated by the heart are extinguished . . . Where God is, there is the future."

The pontiff had slammed abortion upon arriving in Austria Friday as the "very opposite" of human rights.

"The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself," he told members of the government and the diplomatic corps at the Hofburg, the seat of the Austrian presidency in Vienna.

The pope also warned at the mass Saturday that science must be used for good if man is not to be threatened with destruction.

He is right. The Caucasian race is aborting itself out of existence.

It’s in the Pope’s job description not to have any kids. Do you deny that he speaks the truth? It is genetically programmed in every species to perpetuate itself. It is selfish for good & decent people to put having material possessions over bringing more good & decent people into this world - to forego long-term consequences for short-term pleasures. Selfish indeed.

“I had three kids in college at the same time....Wonder where the pope’s kids went??”

What an ignorant and morally repugnant comment.

If a kid cannot go to college then he does not deserve to live? THAT is your morality?

And how superior and intelligent of you to make such a witty comment about a life of devotion and chastity chosen by the Pope.

and you do so anonymously.

BTW: Any adult can got to college in this country without suckling off their parents. ANY person. They are not kids, after 18, they are adults responsible, completely, for their own lives.

This isn’t going to be a nice statement however it’s not only aborting itself out of existence, it is more likely contracepting itself out of existence. A pope in the late 19th, early 20th century said that contraception is racial suicide.....100 years later it looks like he knew what he was talking about. If one group chooses various methods to prevent children from coming into being, while others do not, the outcome is simple, swift and final. The Caucasian race probably has historically been a minority in the world, and now more so than ever. The real trick will be can Caucasians reverse the trend? At this point, given tax incentives in Europe as one method to promote family growth, the answer appears to be no. If people choose a life of leisure, consumerism, self-centeredness and permanent adolescence over self-sacrifice and providing for others, well, I guess they don’t deserve to be around. Time will tell, meantime...back in Asia...

The Pope is right. He is referencing Genesis 1:27-28!!

27 God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them.
28
God blessed them, saying: "Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth."

Kids are expensive.

Perhaps if the Vatican offered to pay for all food, housing, schooling and medical payments...things would turn around quickly.

Your welcome. Popes, like Jesus Christ (whom they’re supposed to imitate) and the Apostles, often said things people didn’t like to hear. Hence their martyrdom. As Christians, to put their words into practice, is very hard indeed. But then again, He said the world would hate you for following him, so, what else is new? I pray for Europe and the Western World (Judeo-Christian) in general; I still don’t think it fully understands that it’s very existence appears to be on the brink of catastrophe, maybe in the very near future. I hope I’m wrong, for our children and grandchidren’s sake. The U.S. isn’t far behind, either............
