It doesnt take much to get thrown off an airplane these days, as Kyla Ebbert found out when a Southwest Airlines employee told her she was too bare for the air. Two months later, shes still trying to figure out what was wrong with her outfit.
In an exclusive appearance Friday on TODAY, Ebbert modeled the outfit she says she wore on the flight in question. It consisted of a snug-fitting white top with a scoop neck that stopped just short of showing cleavage.
Over the shirt was a green sweater that buttoned underneath her bosom. It was finished with high-heeled sandals and a white denim mini-skirt with a fashionably frayed hem.
It was a lot more clothing than the 23-year-old college student wears on her job as a Hooters waitress. Her mother, Michele Ebbert, said she would have told her daughter if the outfit was inappropriate.
But her outfit is fine, Michele Ebbert told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer. She looks like every other college girl in San Diego.
Not according to a Southwest employee identified only as Keith, who approached Ebbert after she had taken her seat on the plane and was listening to the flight attendants go through their pre-departure routine.
He told me, Im sorry, but youre going to have to take a later flight. Youre dressed inappropriately. This is a family airline. Youre dressed too provocative to fly on this flight, she told Lauer.
I said, What part of it, the shirt, the skirt? Which part? Ebbert continued, recounting her conversation with Keith about her outfit. And he said, The whole thing. I said, I didnt bring any luggage with me. I dont have anything to change into. What can I do to make sure I can get onto that flight? ...

Jealousy?
Let me guess, the complainer wasn't conservative minded.
Yeah SWA keep it up!
Your safety of flight record is worthy of your competitors drooling to achieve.
Sometimes it is something just worn over regular clothes in public.
In some mideast countries ‘national dress’ is worn with a great deal of pride by men and women, not as a sign of oppression.
I think her outfit would look better in a pile on the floor of my bedroom ;-)
Forgive me, but I don’t understand your point or points.
“Individual “preference” if perceived as doctrine is nothing more than a road leading to anarchy.”
Are you speaking of the young woman’s preference or mine that she should dress more conservatively? Do you think she should be allowed to board the plane in the buff if that’s her preference? If not, you’re setting unreasonable standards, you despicable prude.
“Whining however wasn’t a dictated right placed in the Constitution.”
Are you speaking of the young woman’s complaints or my posts? If it’s the latter, that’s a brilliant way to dismiss a point of view you disagree with rather than actually refuting it. (Do I need to explain the last bit was sarcasm?)

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Hooters waitresses, because their customers go there knowing what to expect. On the other hand, airline passengers don’t normally expect an in flight peep show.
If THAT was her intent, she wouldn't have passed security...
Closed casket??
Sounds like a personal preference to place such labels on another.
Personally I find someone wearing a dynamite belt and a head towel who speaks broken English on an air carrier much more offensive then a whorish looking person.
Well, there should be some screening standards, of course. Can't have anarchy!
Just putting Helen Thomas on a plane would make all the other passengers run for the exits. Even a burka can’t hide that much ugly.
Awful advice, in my opinion.
My first grader is an innocent little girl.
And NOWHERE in the stores am I able to find shorts or skirts that are long enough for the school’s guidelines.
My daughter has been wearing jeans in the ninety-plus degree heat, while her brother wears cargo shorts.
She isn’t allowed to wear longer sun-dresses because they come with “spaghetti-straps”; which are banned by the schools.
We could end all of this discussion by outfitting Helen in the same clothes as the young ..ahem..."lady", in this article, and seating her on an airplane. LOL!

You’re probably right, and that’s excellent evidence of an out of control legal system. She SHOULD be laughed out of court, but Southwest will likely settle. What a shame.
The real story here is the way the media frames these types of issues. They absolutely love to paint individuals as victims as opposed to the greedy, heartless corporations. Southwest is the real victim here. It’s not like their employees have nothing better to do than to act as clothing inspectors.
Southwest settles....she gets a check.
Southwest tells her to take off...she's in Playboy inside six months...she gets a check...either way she wins.
If you pulled that skirt she’s got sitting below her rear, up to where it’s supposed to be worn, on her waist or hips, you’d be able to see everything she’s got.
And her mother can’t figure out there is anything wrong with that?
My sediments too however I wasn't on that flight. (d@mn it anyway)
I always like doing favors for people just to appreciate the thankful expression that follows. ; )
Oh bull. Anyone expecting to travel during summertime without being exposed to some bare legs is seriously deranged.
And some consider this gal one who totes a whoreish attitude.
The MSM gets a free ride for making this issue a focus of concern just for ratings...
