Idaho Senator Larry Craig obviously did a very bad thing in a men's restroom at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport in June. Whatever took place between Senator Craig and an undercover police officer was bad enough that Senator Craig tried to hide it from everyone around him, public and private. It was bad enough that he pled guilty, hoping it would stay buried forever. There are many things about this affair that have made him politically radioactive, and fatally so. The press statement he gave to the media earlier Tuesday afternoon did not help make his predicament any less dire. In fact, it made it worse.
Senator Craig said very strongly that he did not do anything wrong, that he is not gay, and that he is not ruling out running for re-election next November. Here's what else Senator Craig has not done.
He has not estimated highly enough that his 'I shoulda hired a lawyer instead of trying to solve this myself' excuse doesn't fly with the American people.

At best this is not a political risk worth taking. I've pointed out the very serious consequences that the whole of the GOP will face in 2008 should Craig not resign now. At the very least, it will give his successor time to mount an effective campaign to retain the seat and help keep Idaho red in 2008. The GOP cannot win the presidency without Idaho's electoral votes.
I just sick of the hypocrisy in the liberal MSM.
I've long since tuned them out except for when I want a laugh.
I listen to Levin too and have the same exact mentality. This is not about lewd conduct, being gay, or anything else. This is about making it illegal to be a Republican. Hell, even if Craig did unseemly stuff, liberals encourage and look the other way, hell some of them even run on a platform of bad behavior.
I would say that I refuse to take part in the MSM double standard.
On the surface, it does look like a double standard, but in fact there is only one and the GOP voters hold their reps to it but the Dems do not.
We expect better.
I don’t care what the secret is, but any government official who tries to keep one makes himself the object of blackmail to anyone who finds out. Do we want reps who are more concerned with their so called private life being kept secret than their public duty?
I'm no fan of the dems or the media, but it seems to me Craig had a lot more control over whether or not this was reported, or whether or not it ever happened in the first place! Keep in mind the only reason this was not reported sooner was because his attempt to keep this quiet only succeeded until this week...
Please see my #65.
Missed that...thanks!
Sorry, no sale.
We should not WANT to be held to the same (low) standards as the rats.
No problem. Not a dig. I thought I had read it this morning and I should have asked if you had seen it.
Apologies for what seemed like a terse post.
Will work harder.
Thank you.
And you are right that the media will try to spin this to their (Dem) advantage, but the alternative is that we (the GOP) becomes a mirror image of them.
Okay, good to know your virginity is intact.
The left always supports all things gay. This one is a tough call for them.
Good to know you think Larry Craig is a fine Republican who deserves to be defended.
I understand that we should expect better, but I have had enough. Remember Gary Condit? He had to be defeated in the primaries for him to resign. I just don’t want to be led around by the nose by the liberal MSM.
Is this the type of man that we want as a lawmaker
Kind of off topic but for some reason the term lawmaker just hit me . These guys don’t do a damn thing except work on their personal wealth and business contacts while they are in DC . How many of these clowns actually MAKE LAWS ?
Chris Matthews called Craig “a degerate” for being gay last night if that tells you anything about the double standard.
Yea , I heard about that . How is this all going to play to the HUGE gay left wing groups ?
I've been to that website - it's beyond disgusting that this crime was not only covered up, but that this fat drunkard murderer is now "revered" as a Lion of the Senate. I guess we should be grateful, however, that it killed once and for all any chance he had at the WH.
You do have a point. I can’t say I disagree but the lamestreams run this show and so many people out there don’t attempt to seek information beyond what the media tells them. If they want to downplay the Demonrats’ indiscretions they will.......if they want to spew their venom on Republicans indiscretions they will, and they do...........in spades! :(
