Craig to Hold Press Conference: Will He Resign? [2pm MDT]
ABC News ^ | August 28, 2007

His future in doubt, with allies denouncing his behavior and former staffers voicing disbelief at his arrest, Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, is expected to hold a press conference this afternoon that may answer questions about his political future.

Long dogged by rumors about his sexuality, the married and conservative three-term senator is expected to address the June 11 incident at Minneapolis Airport in which an undercover officer arrested him on charges of lewd conduct in a men's room.

Craig will give a statement this afternoon concerning his arrest at 2 p.m. Mountain Time in downtown Boise, a spokesman said. Craig's staff said he would not take questions.

What evidence do you have of this? The police charge—he was tapping his feet in HIS stall and swiped his hand under it? Looks pretty nothingburger to me.

"I believe I can still be an effective leader for Idaho."

More than lurking around bathroom stalls, this is one example of the problem with Congress, and all of government for that matter.

He's not supposed to be a leader for Idaho. He's supposed to be a servant.

I don’t buy that guys story at all. This very well could be a smear campaign by the left. I am just not calling on him to resign just yet.

Look, I don't know whose story I believe right now. The policeman's story is a bit weird. Since when is tapping your foot in a restroom stall illegal? But, then again, Craig DID plead GUILTY to a charge that should force his resignation.

The bottom line is the Republican Party does not need this distraction right now. Or at any time. He's not worth defending, mostly because he's already put the noose around his own neck and kicked out his own stool when he pleaded guilty to the crime. He needs to be heavily pressured to resign and the rest of the Party needs to condemn his behavior because, no matter what he says now, he's already admitted to the crime and that's all that is necessary.

What would we say about the Democrats if they let one of their own get away with something like this after pleading guilty to the crime?

Now it’s Craig...hopefully he’ll stand his ground.

If your ground is a trap door, and you're standing there with a rope around your neck, your guilt or innocence is irrelevant once the trap door opens and you drop through it.

An innocent man would have fought this charge from the get-go.

He's not telling the truth.

Curious. The big news this morning was suspected Hillary campaign irregularities. Craig’s “news” has totally bumped that issue. If he is guilty, he should quit but how is it that this comes up months later.

"It is clear, though, that through my actions I have brought a cloud over Idaho. For that, I ask the people of Idaho for their forgiveness.

How about this: resign first, ask for forgiveness later.

Well they did out Mark Foley and that has proven not to be a false information.

Could not agree more. If he’s lying, his “partners” will come out of the woodwork. This story will either go away or get much worse.

I'm leaning toward he's innocent. If he's not, he has created an even bigger problem for himself. If he's a homo, there will be plenty of partners coming out of the woodwork and he has to know that.

"Our society is upside down, people know it but the media, the left, and the courts have them terrorized."

In order to be a liberal, you have to stand on your head and declare the rest of the world is upside down. Meanwhile there has been a campaign for years to make certain that our children, through the indoctrination of the public schools we are all forced to pay for, have NO morals, only the "values" that the schools teach: There is NO right or wrong; anything a person chooses to do is fine if he FEELS like it is.

I have been saying this for twenty years - the percentage of gays on Capitol Hill is somewhere between hairdressers and male flight attendants. I am not particularly homophobic, but it has got to be a factor in what has happened to our Constitution.

I can remember when politicians, their staffs, and the press were a bunch of alcoholic, chain smoking, WWII vets. Those were the days!

Maybe people see a difference between what the AG has done and soliciting sex in a public bathroom? Just a thought.

“Why aren’t they out defending Larry Craig tooth-and-nail? He’s more conservative than AG has ever been”

Then either the policeman is lying or Craig is lying.
An investigation could propably find out who’s lying.
If the policeman lied he should go to jail.
If Craig lied, he should resign.

Agressive open borders advocate. With 78% of americans against open borders, they are both out of step. Don’t hold your breath waiting for conservatives to defend Craig. It won’t happen.

If this guy is innocent he deserves to be supported regardless of his other positions.
