BREAKING: FIDEL CASTRO IS DEAD (Claims leading Cuban Blog)
Babalu ^ | 8-24-07 | Val Prieto

My cellphone has not stopped ringing for the past ten minutes. Various sources inform that an announcement will come within the next few minutes from the Cuban government on Cuban TV and media. Stay tuned and we'll see if we've been manipulated once again or if today is the birth date of Cuba's liberty.

Update: Here's the deal and what I know up to now, as of 1500 hours, August 24, 2007:

First, South Florida Law Enforcement is on alert. An EOC (Emergency Operations Center) has been set-up and manned somewhere in Homestead.

Im also told Local and State government agencies have food, bottled water, and other necessities - valued in the millions - stored and/or staged in Homestead at or near the EOC.

I am presently verifying whether Coast Guard and DHS and Border Patrol agencies are on high alert. (Verified 01445)

Local News stations are abuzz, mostly on reports very much like the above, with massive law enforcemnt mobilizations throughout Dade county.

Local emergency medical services notified to be on alert by law enforcement agencies.

Im told - and still awaiting confirmation - that buses in Havana have been recalled to terminals and that Cuban workers have been sent home. (still unconfirmed 1500)

Again, I am loathe to publish the title as I did in this post, but I would be remiss in not telling you all what I know, right now. All of my sources are good but the Cuban government, as we all know, is masterful at controlling media and information and we should not rule out that this and last Friday's "news" have been and are feelers to see what the reactions are here, as well as who reacts within the island. If we've been duped we've been duped. If not, then bust out the champagne.

Once again, these may all be rumor to discredit us and other media sources. All we can do is exactly what we've been doing for quite some time now: wait and see.

More from Killcastro, with sources from within Cuba.

I think it'a fair to say we can. He's been dead since around the 15th of August...he died of fatal septicemia. He's on ice...how disrespectful is that. Chavez tried to stop by and see him I think today...and was turned away. Was not allowed to see Fidel...or his dead body.

Chavez said...'For those who want him to die, they will get frustrated, because Fidel Castro will never die,' Chavez told a socialist rally in the capital Caracas. 'He will always live among the people that fight for a better destiny. He will always live in the people of Cuba, Venezuela and the Americas.' Hmmm...now what does that say...to me it says Fidel is dead. Just more proof...he's dead and on ice.

Kind of icky...but I can’t help but be glad he’s dead. Hope his brother is a weak substitute and that country can now move into the 21st century.

I’ll be! Is it really true? I have not seen it on Fox or other outlets. Methinks that it may be another pipe dream!

“Its as if some sort of secret promise was made (by JFK) back in October 1962 (Cuban Missile Crisis) to protect the governnment in Cuba.”

I think you may be correct. Also, think about the “Iron Curtain”, was there a secret agreement at Yalta to divide Europe into spheres of influence for 50 years?

1945-1995? Why no Soviet tanks against Poland, East Germany etc? They did it before to Hungary and the Czecks. Why not at the end?

East Germany ended in 1990 as did the Soviet Union. The years 1989 to 1990 saw a revolution in Eastern Europe and Russia. Too bad it didn’t completely happen in China.

Interesting question as to why the USSR didn’t to it again. Maybe they were facing internal problems.

The younger generation had different ideals than the old farts in control. Perhaps believed in freedom?

I just don’t see this as a big deal. Raul Castro is already acting President. He is a hardliner and from all indications that I see, he will just continue on in Fidel’s footsteps and nothing much will change.

Hope I’m wrong.

I think they knew the 50 years was nearly up, and it wouldn’t be worth the political cost of military action if they only had a few years left before the “secret treaty” ended.

“However, there was also a secret protocol to the pact, revealed only on Germany’s defeat in 1945, according to which the states of Northern and Eastern Europe were divided into German and Soviet spheres of influence. In the North, Finland, Estonia and Latvia were apportioned to the Soviet sphere. Poland was to be partitioned in the event of its “political rearrangement”—the areas east of the rivers Narev, Vistula and San going to the Soviet Union while the Germans would occupy the west. Lithuania, adjacent to East-Prussia, would be in the German sphere of influence. In the South, the Soviet Union’s interest and German lack of interest in Bessarabia, a part of Romania, were acknowledged. The German diplomat Hans von Herwarth informed his U.S. colleague Charles Bohlen on the secret protocol on August 24, but the information stopped at the desk of President Franklin Roosevelt.

Concerns over the possible existence of a secret appendix were first expressed in the intelligence organizations of the Baltic states scant days after the pact was signed, and the speculations grew stronger when Soviet negotiators referred to its content during negotiations for military bases in those countries. The German original was presumably destroyed in the bombings, but its microfilmed copy was included in the documents archive of the German Foreign Office. Karl von Loesch, a civil servant in Foreign Office, gave this copy to British Lt. Col. R.C. Thomson in May 1945. The Soviet Union denied the existence of the secret protocols until 1988, when politburo member Alexander Nikolaevich Yakovlev admitted the existence of the protocols, although the document itself was declassified only after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992. In December 1989, the first democratically elected Congress of Soviets “passed the declaration admitting the existence of the secret protocols, condemning and denouncing them”
