on vacation "while young Americans in our cities are massacred" by illegal immigrants.
Gingrich, who is considering a run for the White House, was referring to a recent crime in Newark, N.J., where three college students were murdered execution style in a school playground.
One of the suspects -- Jose Lachira Carranza -- is an illegal immigrant from Peru who was on bail on charges of raping a child when the murders occurred.
Gingrich said another suspect is an illegal immigrant from Nicaragua with a long record of arrests who was ordered deported in 1993 but never left.
However, The (Newark) Star Ledger reported Tuesday that the man -- Rodolfo Godinez -- obtained permanent legal residency in 2001.
The Newark Police Department did not return requests for comment.
Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."
"The federal government's incompetence, timidity and uncoordinated efforts to identify and deport criminal illegal aliens have had devastating consequences for innocent Americans," Gingrich said, in a newsletter.
Gingrich said that the "war here at home" against illegal immigrants is "even more deadly than the war in Iraq and Afghanistan."
"As an American, I am sickened that the political leadership of America could continue to go on vacation and do nothing," he said. "Why are the August vacations for the president and the Congress more precious than the lives of young Americans who are being killed because of government incompetence and inaction."
Gingrich said that President Bush should call Congress back into special session for three days to pass a bill in honor of the slain students.
The measure should order the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security to outsource the development of an identification system to check the legal status of felons and have it up and running by Jan. 1, 2008, he said.
In addition, it should withdraw federal aid from any city, county or state that refuses to participate in checking the legal status of arrested felons, Gingrich said.
Authorities say six people, including four juveniles, were involved in the Aug. 4 murders of Terrance Aeriel, 18; Dashon Harvey, 20; and Iofemi Hightower, 20, according to news reports. A fourth victim, 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel, survived after being shot in the head.
Three of the six suspects are in custody, including Carranza, who turned himself into authorities. Three are at large.
Police have said that robbery was the motive for the killings.
Thanks Byron. I appreciate it.
(Zechariah probably knows this...) Senator Hayakawa started US English in 1983, having EVERYTHING to do with immigration. The issue has been there, it’s just that the powerful and the liberal ones could shut us down easily by crying the “R” word. It took a brave man, such as the senator, to go against the crowd.
It’s only been recently that people started realizing we wouldn’t melt when the pro-open border lobby calls us names.
You’re welcome :0)
What you said!
Don't hire them, dont rent to them, don't play the games of the politically correct! Eventually, they will go home on their own steam, if not, turn them in. They all have a sad story, but they all could be the next potential killer of an American! Accidentally...or on purpose! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
His baggage is people like you, hopelessly deranged, destroying our most effective leaders at the direction of the MSM and the Democrats.
Take a walk, cool down.

Newt's problem lately (and often in the past) is that most of us don't read further than headlines' writers want us to read, and that what some of us with the agenda say about what Newt said isn't really what Newt actually said.
I've been amazed recently at what I saw the comments on FR say about what Newt said when reading the article I found he said exactly the opposite and I couldn't agree more with what he did say.
Newt's other problem is that he actually thinks about issues and finds what the real problems and practical solutions to them are, not just speaking from the "What to say if you are Republican candidate for President" manual. That's probably why so many FReepers want him to "just go away" or to "just shut up". Especially those who quote 11th Commandment.
And yes, I’m all in favor of his adding his voice to actually doing something about illegal immigrants. But the way he said what he said, was worth less than nothing.
Are cats and dogs sleeping together, yet?
Newt’s a horses a$$.
Good ole Bob Dole was the one duped by media into believing that he was being a "grownup" in a class of House's "schoolchildren" led by Newt. Bob Dole and several of "revolutionaries" in the House who were envious of Newt sabotaged Newt in 1995's budget standoff and made a deal with Clinton (just a day or two before he was ready to give in on budget, according to later accounts of several people in Clinton's inner circle). Bob Dole went on to embarrass himself, conservatives and Republicans in campaign of 1996, and "Bob Dole knows it and American people know it - Liberal, Liberal, Liberal Bill Clinton".
If we ignore what Newt has to say, we are going to be "Good ole Bob Dole'd" again in 2008. He is actually the only one that I heard having a plan of attack on Democrats instead of usual "rah-rahs" we all like to hear from our candidates.
This is one of the bluest cities in one of the bluest states. The Donks love illegal immigrants and have been trying to make them legal. The Illegals are doing us a favor by driving the voters out of the democratic party.
LOL!
Been away for most of the summer — seems like the tone of FreeRepublic has changed some.......
You never hear a dem cutting down another dem, but they get all the press time they want!! The only way a Republican gets press time is when they cut down, ‘eat’ their own. And let that be President Bush and it REALLY get them press time!! McCain is a perfect example.
Hopefully Newt cares about the real story!!
Jon Corzine, the new Gov. of New Jersey .... is the one who needs to get back to work!!

“Gang rumors swirl around Newark schoolyard killings

“Categories: Crime/Courts, Essex County, News
In the days since a band of men and boys allegedly gunned down a group of college students in a Newark schoolyard, investigators have struggled with one of the case’s most provocative mysteries: rumored links to a notorious street gang called MS-13.
The gang, rooted in the 1980s Salvadoran civil war and dominated by Latino immigrants, is considered one of the country’s most violent criminal groups. Although MS-13 doesn’t have large numbers in Newark, residents of the Ivy Hill neighborhood where the killings took place say they’ve seen more young men enticed by the gang. That included five of the suspects in the Aug. 4 execution-style shootings.
Neighbors of three juvenile suspects say the boys claimed to be members of MS-13. At least two of them maintained MySpace pages that praised the gang. The adult suspects, Jose Carranza and Rodolfo Godinez, were active members, residents say.
Because of those reputed connections, investigators are exploring whether they played a role in the Aug. 4 attack, in which three college students died and a fourth survived a gunshot to the face.——”
Thanks for connecting the dots, DO
Oh please! Immigration was not even an issue then. Newt started a conservative Repub revolution,
