Duncan Hunter's Iowa Straw Poll speech.
Get real, Hunter can’t even break 1% in a GOP straw poll.
Tommy Thompson, Sam Brownback, and Tom Tancredo beat him.
These are not “sheeple” blinded by the MSM.
This is Hunter’s core audience here, and he still couldn’t close the deal.
You can’t blame the media for Mike Huckabee getting 15 times as many votes.
That isn't Romney's fault. It's a knock on Hunter's campaign, on his supporters. Give Hunter a $2500 contribution. Each of you. Make him competitive in the money game.
I trust Mitt Romney more than I trust Fred Thompson. I don't like everything that Mitt Romney has said or done over the years. I've sent money to Duncan Hunter and not to Mitt Romney because Duncan Hunter has been fighting for my beliefs for all of these years. However, the weaknesses in Mitt Romney's record have at least some excuse in his living in a liberal state and wanting to make the changes that would keep that state solvent and efficient. He couldn't have done anything in Massachusetts if he'd campaigned as a hard-core pro-lifer.
Fred Thompson doesn't have that excuse. As a popular senator from Tennessee, he could have stood strong for conservative principles. He didn't have to embrace campaign finance reform. He didn't have to vote for the Lautenberg gun ban. He had the political capital to tell people that the ban was a bad idea that sounded good to people who weren't thinking very deeply. He could have voted to convict Clinton on both counts of impeachment. I know that he has a long explanation for his vote, but the vote was still the wrong vote. I'll continue supporting Mr. Hunter until he quits the race or until he seems to be mathematically eliminated, but when that day comes, I'd rather support Mitt Romney than Fred Thompson. The more often I read posts by Fred Thompson supporters, the less likely I am to support him.
Bill
Whoa! Hunter has won straw polls, and the reason he didn’t do better in this one is because he was doing the people’s work, PROTECTING us working on Iraq issues, which is why he got to Iowa late.
While Hunter was WORKING, the others were campaigning.
Hunter isn’t that far behind Rudy, and Rudy in No. 1 in the National polls (sadly Rudy is #1, but my point is, this Ames straw poll is not the end all).
8. Rudy Giuliani 183 votes
9. Duncan Hunter 174 votes
10. John McCain 101 votes
Get lost, pea brain.
I don’t recall reading that post, but in my heart I felt the results would be as they were. I am not discouraged in the least. He will not change, and we shouldn’t either. As the others drop out one by one, they and their supporters will back Hunter. I don’t think Fred T. will enter at all when it’s all said and done. Just my opinion.
LOL!!
Hey, I’d take a Thompson/Hunter ticket or vice-versa; ALL DAY LONG!
“Get real, Hunter cant even break 1% in a GOP straw poll.”
What are you talking about. Hunter has won straw polls, or came in top 3 WHEN HE HAD TIME TO CAMPAIGN.
He didn’t have the time to campaign for THIS poll, because he was busy on Iraq issues to protect your butt (and mine).
I wonder, will McLame will drop out since Hunter beat him in a poll? Or Rudy since Hunter was only 9 points behind? Maybe FRed should drop out since he only has a couple hundred more supporters than Cox (after all, he’s been on TV for a few years and been pushed by several talking heads as the “ideal candidate”).
He's promised to stay in this for the long haul. He's an Army Ranger, and I trust him and will continue to send my hundred bucks a month to his campaign. We owe him the same allegiance he's shown the country. The reward will come by way of constancy. Don't think Seuss so much as Aesop: Tortoise and Hare.
I tend to agree with you about Fred Thompson. I don’t think he is up to the challenge.
More people are requesting to get on the DH ping list every day. There is a groundswell building for him, one that will surprise a lot of folks. I am looking forward to his freerepublic conference this monday.
1-it straw poll

Ps Go Duncan Hunter

APPLAUSE!! CHEERS!! KUDOS!! WTG!!
“Hunter only spent eight days there. While others are busy positioning, he’s busy doing.”
That’s the way it IS and that’s the way it’s BEEN.
Hunter is a U.S. Rep, not a Former Republican Governor of an Ultra-Blue Liberal State like Mass.
But you are right. Hunter has it all. I've said it before, but I think he'd be a great VP for a term or two, then he could run himself...16 years of Conservatives in the White House would be very nice.
Hunter has won straw polls, or came in top 3 WHEN HE HAD TIME TO CAMPAIGN.But this is the straw poll that counted.
“But this is the straw poll that counted.
His placement in the very back of the pack — behind the candidates who didn’t even show up for the straw poll — makes his campaign unviable.
It takes him out of the running completely.
It’s just the way it works.
Now you Hunterites should start thinking about the future and spend less time attacking the candidate who will actually be the eventual nominee.”
