Whoa! Hunter has won straw polls, and the reason he didn’t do better in this one is because he was doing the people’s work, PROTECTING us working on Iraq issues, which is why he got to Iowa late.

While Hunter was WORKING, the others were campaigning.

Hunter isn’t that far behind Rudy, and Rudy in No. 1 in the National polls (sadly Rudy is #1, but my point is, this Ames straw poll is not the end all).

8. Rudy Giuliani 183 votes

9. Duncan Hunter 174 votes

10. John McCain 101 votes

I wonder, will McLame will drop out since Hunter beat him in a poll? Or Rudy since Hunter was only 9 points behind? Maybe FRed should drop out since he only has a couple hundred more supporters than Cox (after all, he’s been on TV for a few years and been pushed by several talking heads as the “ideal candidate”).

Another reason I'll trust Mitt Romney before I will Fred Thompson is seeing how intensely the enemedia dislike him. While Fred is getting friendly interviews and softball questions, it is becoming clear to me that the media absolutely loathes Mitt.

Maybe this will change when Fred actually gets into the race, but while Fred is avoiding pressure situations, Mitt is handling them reasonably well.
