How Much Longer Can America Survive an Ignorant Electorate?
NewsBull ^ | August 9, 2007 | JB Williams

Can any representative republic survive a progressively ignorant electorate? Can freedom be sustained in any society hell-bent upon taxing its productive members out of existence, for benefit of its non-productive? Can people unable to successfully govern their own lives be entrusted with the power to govern others?

Not to be unkind, but we need to face facts here. So long as a republic represents the will of the brave, it will remain the home of the free. When it’s run by the productive members of society, it will remain prosperous. When it’s governed by the independent minded, it will not be dependent upon anyone. When run by those with a healthy respect for individual rights, special interests will no longer need special consideration.

But when cowards, thieves and thugs run things, those who believe that some progressive form of socialism is better than individual freedom and personal achievement, freedom is diminished. When those seeking to rob the rich in the name of the poor while stuffing their own pockets and growing their own political power run things, then the republic represents cowardly thieves, not the people.

Notwithstanding the awesome resiliency of the republic our founders built, I believe the answer is: "Not much longer."

And, sadly, the ignorance is willful. This generation has more information available to it at its fingertips than any generation that went before. We as a nation have no excuse.

All they know to do when a Bush fails is to vote for a Clinton. They just can’t figure out what is happening.

Robert Heinlein had a point in his book “Starship Troopers” (?), recently a movie, part of which is: Those who’ve personally invested in a society will work to see it go. If it’s open to quite literally everyone, especially illegals, its demise is immanent.

Did you know “Mitt” is comparing himself to Reagan? However, George W. Romney, who was elected to a third two-year term in MI on the same day that Reagan was first elected governor in CA, said only that he “accepted, but did not endorse” the Goldwater candidacy. The Romneys are as much RINO as the Bushes, and the Bushes seem to favor Romney though they are reconciled to HRC.

The founders had it right, accomplished, independent, successful people do a better job of running things, no matter what those things are...

“Vote for the liar. He promises more!”
or a tagline I’ve seen here: “Cthulu for President. Why vote for the lesser of two evils?”

This is a powerful piece and one that needs to be trumpeted far and wide.

It is not the electorate that’s ignorant, it’s those elected officials who are ..... which I guess does make us some what suspect ....

I assume that govt is about 1/2 of the economy conceptually, of the half that are left, half, conceptually can read and write at least at the fifth grade level...a minority at a higher level. There are no longer enough literate, educated voters to sustain us with a true, informed educated vote...or, are there? The next election is the last election where there might be hope for a potential beginning turnaround from the precupice we find ourselves at. ALL educated voters must vote and play an activist role. I can make no prediction. A lot can happen in the next year and a half.

The beginning of the end was when we began to allow non-property owners to vote.

Just as taxation without representation is wrong. Representation without taxation is wrong.

Unless you bear a portion of the cost of something you shouldn’t get a voice in its creation.

Though many may disagree, I’ve often thought that an IQ test should be a pre-requisite for voter registration.

One more time, with emphasis:

Inspiration, I tell you. Pure inspiration.
