Harry Potter: 3 More Things I Learned
ExileStreet ^ | 8/1/07 | John Mark Reynolds

Posted on 08/01/2007 6:59:32 AM PDT by ParsifalCA

I am warning those who have not finished the series . . . and there must be still a few of them by now. . . that there are spoilers ahead. I have just finished the last book . . . having spent an enjoyable evening with it thanks to Sam’s Club and an indulgent wife.

I am done with Harry Potter and enjoying the literary aftertaste the way one enjoys a fine meal almost as much after it is done as when it is being consumed . . . though it is a bit sad that the series is finished.

And it is really finished . . .

Will one be able to re-read the books with pleasure?

I think the answer is only a tentative “yes.” If one knows the “puzzles” and “the secrets” of the book, it will not take away the charm of the characters or the fun of a good Quidditch match, but the first read will always be the best.

The strength of these books is in the plot and the second read, when everything is known, will be satisfying for finding all the clues to what happens . . . but I am hard pressed to know if I will want to re-read them a third or fourth time.

A really great book is as good on the fourth read . . . and some children’s books (Little White Horse) are better.

I deeply enjoyed the last book and thought the ending satisfying. For those who found them quite Christian, they will find much in this last book to give strength to their idea.

I guess this is why I never joined a book club.

Well, that and obviously Mommy got her credit card back.

Look, you're just being a jerk. You come in here, make an ignorant dumb@$$ statement and people called you on it. Then somehow ~your~ ignorance makes ~us~ inferior.

NOBODY ON THIS THREAD gives a rat's butt whether you like the books or not. Lot's of people don't like/read the books. That's the way the world works.

WE happen to LIKE the Harry Potter books. WE happen to be involved in politics.

So way back at post #2 you proved you don't know what you're talking about. We pointed that out to you and and after nearly 800 posts, you still don't get it.

You give muggles a bad name.

First you say that people that read these books aren’t politically active, which wouldn’t be an insult but you say it on a political site where there happen to be DOZENS of politically active people that also read these books. That’s an insult, at least to an FR crowd it is.

Then you say we all must have boring lives. That’s an insult in any crowd.

Then you ask if we’re country club republicans. Again in an FR crowd that’s an insult.

It’s got nothing to do with the “stupid fantasy story” (another insult) and everything to do with you being an insulting jerk. Stop being an insulting jerk and people will stop complaining about you being an insulting jerk.

Wow, how easy it is to insult people. It's just a stupid fantasy story about magic. I guess this is why I never joined a book club.

If you're ever interested in one, I suggest Book-it, you can win pizzas for reading. It's a good incentive.

Reading your posts makes me think you know more about Oprah theology than anyone else here.

” My son knows that Harry Potter magic is fiction.
He also knows that crackheads and homosexuals are real.”

Occultism is not fiction.

Witchcraft is real.

Oprah wrote the Book of Luke?

Luke 6:37
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

have you read the article linked to in 707 yet? It blows your position to tiny pieces, not only is there NOT occult in HP there’s tons of Christian references. Of course those of us who actually READ the books instead of just seeing the movies knew both those things, and we’ve tried to point it out to you, but maybe that guys writing will finally teach you a little something. Probably not though, none are so blind as those who will not see.

“You know full well that wasn’t a personal attack,”

Your insinuation that I was a pedophile who took trips to Thailand was one of the filthiest personal attacks I have ever seen on FR.

Then you must have overlooked my response, which was (and I quote):

“I take it you’ve never seen a 500-response Potter thread on this here political forum. How you managed to miss them is beyond me.”

“Oprah wrote the Book of Luke?”

Oprah and her ilk take Luke so out of context that if one were to follow their lead, one would be utterly unable to distinguish good from evil.

And YOU know that.

However, unlike you and Harry Potter, Oprah and I have actually read the Book of Luke.

Yup.

Did you happen to notice I very specifically said: "Harry Potter magic is fiction"?

He is specifically forbidden to use a Ouija board, among other things.

Why bother any more. PetroniusMaximus has made it clear he/she will just repeat the same things over and over again. Post some garbage from one website. It gets blown out of the water? Post some garbage from another website. Repeat...

Honestly, it was fun for a while, but it's just boring now. One line retorts for people who show how seriously misguided he/she is. It's like he/she's not even trying now. Just wants to keep the insults coming is my guess, or to keep the discussion centered on him/her.
