Bob Novak stopped by the Heritage Foundation today for a lunchtime discussion with conservative bloggers about his new professional autobiography, The Prince of Darkness. While he lamented the practice of reporters acting as opinion drivers and news analysts, Novak wasn't shy about offering a few opinions of his own. When asked to rate the current field of Republican presidential candidates, Novak didn't have any kind words for the current top-tier field of Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and John McCain.

Saddam we only tepidly supported as a bulwark against the ayatollah. We were quite happy to see them fight each other. I was fine with that. Shah of Iran? Yep. He was preferable to what preceeded and far preferable to what followed. I know a gaggle of Iranians that fled after Jimmuh Carters Iranian revloution. You wont find a more patiotic bunch of Americans. Did it lead to blowback? Perhaps. all actions have counteractions.
Foreign aid? For Israel, yes, but I would want to wean them off of it, but perhaps have a formal military alliance.
Egypt? no. Most foreign aid? No, unless it is vital to our strategic interests.
Assasinating Allende in Chile. Yes. Assasinate Chavez and Castro? yes.
Thanks, I appreciate your honesty. Iff this all expansive world micromangement policy doesn't consitute big government world policy, however, I don't know what does. You apparently don't think it does....so we'll have to disagree.
BTW, Khomeini would have appreciated your support for the Shah back in 1953 since he demonstrated in a CIA "rent a crowd" which supported restoration of the monarchy. Like us, he didn't like the secularist regime then in power.

So you want to eliminate the married/single designation on federal tax forms? No benefits to spouses in gov’t or military? No federal law, benefit or recognition of any kind for marriage? What about First Lady? Shall we do away with First Lady?

PAUL'S A KOOK, I TELL YA! THE END TIMES ARE NIGH!

The most conservative candidate in the race gets criticized by self-described "conservatives" for not expressing his foreign policy positions in the requisite Toby-Keith-lyric soundbites But they'll embrace liberal turds like Giuliani, Brownback, and McCain.
Hear the news today. The Joint Chiefs of Staff nominee said our troops will be in Iraq for years, not months. Republicans who support a long-term committment in Iraq are going to be in for a shocker in 2008.

Ron Paul wants the U.S. Army on the border. He wants the Southern border militarized, which means he’s tougher on border security than Duncan “I’m the one that built that fence” Hunter.

I could not disagree more. The way things are moving in Iraq, the dems will be in for a trouncing.

LOL. good try. Hunter is the only one I’m aware of that forwarded legislation multiple times to use the military on the borders. Not to mention drastically increasing the size of the BP.
That has little to do with islamists blowing up our ships and embassies and tourists the world over though.

We dragged ourselves in... Now we're crabbing because we've encountered resistance?
Yes, I suppose things have probably always tended to go along this line for some Americans. I'll wager that many a pioneer crabbed at those pesky indigenous peoples who attacked the wagon trains that dragged themselves into the Golden West long ago. How much better it would have been if our fore bearers had just stayed at home and tended their gardens. [/sarc]

Babies come from sex, not marriage.Something Ron Paul, as a practicing gynecologist, can vouch for.

LOL. good try. Hunter is the only one Im aware of that forwarded legislation multiple times to use the military on the borders. Just an honest question here: is it immigrant smugglers or drug smugglers who most often meet the border patrol armed and ready for battle? Or both? [this leads to another can of worms topic that most will see coming from miles away...]

The Buchanan brigades and the Paulastinians share many of the same bigotries.

“Policing the world” is just code language for “let’s surrender.” Unless you’re a coward who wants to give in to Muslim terrorists, I say police the world enough to keep Americans safe. No apologies.
