Democratic Sen. Charles E. Schumer said Friday that the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush "except in extraordinary circumstances.
"We should reverse the presumption of confirmation, Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington, reported The Politico. "The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito............................

I suppose that Schumer's idea of fair and balanced is nine socialist leaning activist jurists or a media that is totally skewed in the liberal direction with no Conservatives on talk radio.
Methinks John Paul Stevens or Ruth Bader Ginsberg are on the verge of retiring.
and none too soon while we still have a country left!

That is EXACTLY what the socialists want. They do not want A CONSTITUTION which is just and OBSTACLE for them and their fanatic lust for absolute socialist power. One party, all government control -— right out of the Communist Manifesto.
Vote Hillary - 2008 — and vote for Karl Marx.
The rats will sit the mummys of these two pieces of leftist filth on the bench before they let a nominee pass from the present WH. Is the schumer-schmuk leaves this earth real soon, that would be a blessing.
Chucky Schmucky Schumer is now a Seinfeld character: The Judge Nazi ... “No Judges For You!”
Chucky is a schmucky and a schleppy ‘Rat he is.....
A slimy leftie libbie who stirs trouble as his biz.
Don't get your hopes up, the track record of Republican Presidents nominating conservative (so they thought) judges is quite poor. Don't forget a lot of the liberal SCOTUS judges currently on the court were nominated by Republican presidents. George Bush senior sure got bamboozled by Souter.
So much for the Court not being politicized
At least the Democrat just wants to stop any new appointments. The Republican (Specter) looks like he wants to remove those who did get appointed.
Chuckie the Schmuckie... maybe he knows something about an impending Supreme Court change? I think the man is despicable. He flat-out called AG Gonzales a perjurer on Friday. Now I am no great fan of the AG, but this means political war and we have to stand by him and the Administration.
And Reagan wasn’t by Sandra and Kennedy?
On the upside, if Schmucky Schroomer gets his way and those two don't get replaced the balance of the court will be well slanted right.
Something that fool probably never thought about.
I wonder if any of these pinko bastards ever read FR to see what is really thought of them. I wish they would.
If Baby Bush had governed like a conservative, instead of like the new-world order big-business moderate that he is, this wouldn’t even be an issue because there is no way the Republicans would have lost the Senate.
The RNC should make a commercial out of this where they start with a clip of Reid and other RATS complaining about “Republican obstructionism.” Then they can play Schumer’s comment (if it’s on tape) or quote it along with stats on judge confirmations since the RAT takeover and ask who the real obstructionists are.
Of course the RNC never seems to know how to take these golden opportunities and run with ‘em.
Senator Says Democrats Were ‘Duped’ by Supreme Court Justices
July 28, 2007
Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), a member of the Judiciary Committee that held hearings on Justices Roberts and Alito, said Democratic senators were duped into voting for the twos appointment to the Supreme Court. Schumer, in a speech to the American Constitution Society, said, “We were too easily impressed by the charm of nominee Roberts and the erudition of nominee Alito.” Schumer asked. “Their decency and intelligence shouldve tipped us off that they werent to be trusted.
Schumers comments came just days after Sen. Arlen Specter (RINO-Penn) voiced concerns about Roberts and Alito. It was our expectation that these appointees would shift to the left, like Souter, Stevens, and OConnor did, once they were elevated to lifetime jobs on the Court, Specter said. They were all appointed by Republican presidents, but became solid bulwarks of liberal jurisprudence once they got on the Court.
In a series of 5-4 rulings in the past year on topics such as abortion and racial integration, the court’s conservative majority, bolstered by Roberts and Alito, showed what Schumer called undue respect for the views of ordinary people. We have counted on the courts to overturn laws issuing from the biases of the electorate and their representatives. With the edition of Roberts and Alito, though, the Court is neglecting its traditional role as the nations supreme governing authority.
Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer, spoke with Specter earlier this month, telling him that the court term that ended in June was notable for rulings that reversed some long-standing decisions. The new conservative bloc is undermining the authority of the judiciary. Breyer complained. If this trend is allowed to continue unchecked, the Courts ability to rule this country will be seriously compromised. We can only hope that the Democratically controlled Senate will prevent any of Bushs further nominees from being approved.
Schumer opined that his greatest regret was not doing more to kill the Alito nomination. Alito shouldnt have been confirmed, Schumer said. I should have done a better job. My colleagues said we didnt have the votes, but I think we should have twisted more arms and borked him when we had the chance.
Schumer concurred with Breyers assessment and vowed that the Senate will never confirm another Bush nominee. The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito, Schumer said. Senator Barack Obamas (D-Ill) pledge that his first Supreme Court nominee will be a gay, black homeless person is looking like the medicine we need to restore a proper balance of perspective to the Court. Regardless of which Democrat is elected president in 2008, I think we can look forward to more acceptable jurists being appointed to the courts.
