GMA Home Protection Tips: Chimes, Mini-Cactus, But No Guns
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

No guns please, we're liberals . . .

As soon as today's "Good Morning America" began to tease an upcoming how-to segment on protecting against home invasion, I immediately suspected the show wouldn't discuss one obvious measure: obtaining fireams and learning how to use them.

And sure enough . . .

GMA ran the segment in the wake of the horrific home-invasion in Connecticut in which the the wife and two daughters of a prominent doctor were killed and the man badly beaten. An expert was brought in to discuss various measures, and Chris Cuomo added some suggestions of his own. They ranged from keeping shrubbery low, to installing lights, alarms and air chimes, to putting peepholes in the door, to creating a "safe room" to which a family can flee.

But never did GMA breathe a word about firearms. My favorite moment was Cuomo's Cactus Defense. That's Chris' hand pointing at that lethal little mini-cactus in the window planter.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA CO-HOST CHRIS CUOMO: Something as simple as cactus. Sounds simple, right? Oh, they wouldn't care about that, right? But they do. They think about these things. Chimes, outside the window.

View video here.

I don't know, Chris. If your home were being invaded, what would you rather have handy: a spider cactus or a Smith & Wesson?

LOL! Yeah, cactus is going to stop some criminal from breaking into your home. Recentkly the police caught a burglar here is Austin that was kicking in front doors to gain entry (in broad daylight). I guess he heard about the cactus trick and decided to use a more convenient portal.

Bad news for anyone that tries to invade my home while I’m there. All they will get is a one way, non-stop, all expenses paid ticket to the morgue- courtesy of S&W.

Liberals are stupid. They are deficient in common sense on the most fundamental matters of life.

I think some are "book smart," but agree they lack common sense, especially denying that evil exists among us, and we cannot rehabilitate people with evil in their hearts. The local newspaper (Hartford Courant) has good coverage of this horrific crime, better than the tepid summary on CNN. On the papers blog responses, some of the liberals in the area are calling for people to enter a 5K race to benefit a diabetes clinic. LOL. They can do as they wish. But for others, good karma is spelled G-L-O-C-K.

Pshaw. Brush pants and snake-proof boots will get me through that. A Kevlar vest may protect the chest and abdomen, but if you know where to aim, you can disable someone quick with a load of double-ought.

I was watching TV one night, heard a noise at my front door, looked thru the peephole to see some scumbag trying to pick my deadbolt. Got my shotgun, whipped the door open, aimed the shotgun at the guy and then laughed as the man’s eyes widened and he ran like a rabbit down the steps! Until police resopnse in my city is that quick, I’ll keep my weapons, thank you very much!

Good point. A dog is probably better than a gun. Better they note your dog and go elsewhere than you have to blow them away after they get in the house.

Take a small silhouette target from the range, with the black “body” on white paper. One that is all shot up, with lots of center mass and head shots. Put it in a window facing out. It is very effective at night, with the silhouette well, silhouetted, and light pouring out of each bullet hole.

Sorry, but I’m going to have to steal that line.

For home protection, my main advice is (1) get a dog, and (2) have at least one firearm.

Criminals do not like dogs. They tend to avoid houses that look like they have them. And in a home-invasion scenario even a small dog will likely give you warning that something is happening, and give you at least a precious few seconds to get to your weapon

Why not both?

The single most dangerous--and the scariest--thing about Leftists is that they are delusional--they refuse to face reality and to be truthful. It is this fundamental mendacity that is the basis of the decadence that threatens to destroy Western Civilization where all the wars and plagues did not.

Those overwhelmed by this decadence tend to start with a premise--in this case, that guns are too dangerous to be used for self-defense--and to construct arguments and beliefs, often amounting to a delusional system--and LAWS-- around it, refusing to consider the possibility that their arguments, beliefs, and laws are based on a false premise. In this respect--as well as in others--they are very much like religious fundamentalists.

Because of their false premises, delusions, falty logic, commitment to groupthink, and refusal to face truth, these people lead many, including themselves, astray and make themselves vulnerable to the manipulations of self-serving politicians.

Unfortunately, many of them are determined to force their objectives and conclusions on everyone else, and this is what makes them so dangerous and so scary.

They are going to consider every possibility and do everything imaginable except the very thing that could lead to the solution of a problem--viz. face, accept, and articulate the truth.

If these people think that wind chimes and cactuses will protect good people from brutal, determined murderers, they are too nutty to be passing out advice. Unfortunately, millions of people--including themselves--lack the wit to comprehend this.
