Stuffing prisons with black men is not the way to reduce crime

One of my four brothers graduated from the University of Iowa, but being an African American male, I don't think I want to spend too much time in the Hawkeye State. Only about 2 percent of Iowa's population is African American, but blacks are 13.6 times more likely than whites to be imprisoned there. That's more than twice the national average, which is bad enough

Stuffing prisons with black criminals is a superior way to reduce crime. Most criminals specialize in their own particular crime, and repeat that crime. And the census data show that blacks are the most likely part of the society to commit crimes. At the other end of the scale, Asians are the least likely to commit crime.

The writer of this article needs to wake up and smell the crime statistics.

Scholars have correlated a larger number of churches with a larger number of crimes of crime too. What they tried to hide was that the larger numbers of churches were present in a larger community, thus for a given crime rate you have more occurrences. Again, lies, damn lies and statistics.

Poverty and crime do NOT have a relationship. In where crime exists in poor communities, its a punitive tax on those who can least afford it, harming their quality of life and eliminating the feeling of personal security. So if anything, for that reason alone, crime in poor communities needs to be punished more harshly because of the threat it presents to the community's well-being and the happiness of the individuals who live in it.

No. The Great Society helped many poor people. The black community did a lot of harm to their own community and continues to do harm.

I agree. Just stuffing prisons with black men seems non-sensical. I think we should continue the practice of stuffing prisons with criminals, without regard to race. If one race is over-represented statistically, then so be it.

Second, I agree but for different reasons. We should kill the murderers, and do a “Lord of the Flies/Escape From New York” style prison for the violent but non-murdering ones.

You are making a causal inference that has no basis. Just because the black community is destroying itself you are blaming the disaster on a social program that preceded it.

Public smoking has been outlawed. Why not blame that?

Automobile emissions have decreased. Perhaps that is the problem.

Why not look at the black community itself and lack of personal responsibility.

The black community would like to blame someone else. Anyone else.

Larry Elder once said that violent crime victims of ALL races, when asked what the race of the criminal was say it was a "person of color" about 50% of the time. He then asked what kind of black woman would lie and say it was a "black guy" who raped her if it was a white man?

This is the most damnably racist statement of all. So poor black people don't know the difference between right and wrong? Does that mean that rich white people are the most moral, then? Yeah Ted Kennedy is a paragon of virtue.
