Y’know, while I would never key someone’s car, I have on occasion made loud remarks about posers who drive an SUV that’s used neither for utility nor sport.
I mean, what earthly good is an SUV that never goes off-road? If you’re not gonna use the SUV for the reason God created it, buy a damn station wagon.
(I’ve also been known to cast aspersions on the manhood of middle-aged guys who drive Corvettes.)
So do you get up in the person’s face and do this or do you do it from the safety of your car?
Xena I use mine to get to work in the winter so that some other poor shlub won’t have to do a double, but thats just me.
Well I'm a middle aged man, and I don't care what you think; if I had the spare change; I'd get a Vette.
Something along the lines of.....
1963 ~ 1967 - IMHO the best looking Vettes ever. Particularly the roadsters.
LOL, I think you must have hit close to home. XD
Nice!
Go drive a Toyota Corolla around and see where the bumpers of larger vehicles would strike you or your child if you were side swiped or rear-ended or had a head-on.
Hint: It’s known as the “kill zone” in hunting.
Higher is better. And it's basic physics: the larger mass absorbs greater force (rather than the occupants).
If you wish to make yourself available 24/7/365 during the snowstorms to install and remove snow chains, six or seven times during the day, my wife would love for me to buy her a new station wagon.
Please realize that you will have to become extraordinarily skilled as she changes from two wheel drive to four wheel drive without stopping her vehicle.
I drove a 3/4 ton pickup when I lived near North Pole Alaska and burned wood & coal to heat my home every winter, had no garbage pickup and had to haul that stuff out, and needed the 4 wheel drive just to get to main road to get to work each day. In my view 90% of the huge shiny pickups on the road are driven by posers. Oh, since I no longer live in Alaska, I no longer drive a big pickup.
What business is it of yours? This is America where we have freedom to buy and own whatever we can afford.
I don't believe you're Xenalyte. I think you're her HUSBAND and you've broken into her FR account.
Bring back Xenalyte!
I personally would not want a Corvette, but I know a few 50 year old balding pot-bellied guys who drive them (and have driven them since they were 25 years old) and I have no doubt they could demonstrate their manhood to you, be you male of female.
It's never smart to jump to conclusions about people based on appearences. In fact, it can get you hurt.
I personally own a
.
1969 Mustang 428 6 miles to the gallon
.
1977 corvette 8 miles to the gallon.
.
1997 H1 Hummer 14 miles to the gallon. (This gets great milage)
.
2000 Land Cruiser 10 miles to the gallon
.
2007 Navigator 11 miles to the gallon
.
2000 Ford Ranger 18 mpg
.
2004 Sport Track 17 mpg.
.
I would like to personally thank you for driving your eco car as this leaves more gas for people like me !!!! :) :)
You misunderstand — completely — the driving force behind SUV ownership. It has ZERO to do with off-road anything. It is centered entirely around this one, simple market-driving mantra, “Because I want to”.
Automakers sell SUV’s by the score simply because — unlike a certain legislative body we love to hate — they LISTEN to their customers and manufacture things that their customers want to buy.
More chrome gets popular? Manufacturers add more chrome.
Ridiculously big rims get popular? Manufacturers offer tire/wheel packages with ridiculously big rims.
Folks love their iPods? Manufacturers add an iPod dock to the dashboard.
On and on it goes...all so that the customer writing the check, when asked “Why?” can respond, “Because I want to”.
I don't think any one in America has to justify their transportation to you or any one else. My dream drive is a big Kenworth or Peterbuilt and I will never haul a commercial cargo but I would haul a boxcar full of busy body wannabe fascists to the dump for free.
You can thank the government and the CAFE standards for getting rid of "real" station wagons, and the rise of the mini-van and SUV.

I’m one of those “no-off-road” SUV drivers - I have a compact-plus-size SUV and now feel very uncomfortable driving around in a road-level car. Here in the Bay Area, when it rains in the winter, you’re down low in the road spray. Don’t like it.
Yes, I like the extra space, but especially like a little more heft to the car, and being up a little higher for visibility and a little better look forward. Also better road clearance. Mileage isn’t bad at 19 mpg, but I don’t drive inefficiently, either (wind it up, wind it down, repeat).
And yes, I’ma very careful driver. Dad lets me drive on the driveway.
K-Mart sucks. Wapner’s on at 4 ((grin))
