Hummer Owner Gets Angry Message

Vandals Batter D.C. Man's SUV, Slash Its Tires and Scratch In an Eco Note

On a narrow, leafy street in Northwest Washington, where Prius hybrid cars and Volvos are the norm, one man bought a flashy gray Hummer that was too massive to fit in his garage. So he parked the seven-foot-tall behemoth on the street in front of his house and smiled politely when his eco-friendly neighbors looked on in disapproval at his "dream car."

It lasted five days on the street before two masked men took a bat to every window, a knife to each 38-inch tire and scratched into the body: "FOR THE ENVIRON."

"The thought of somebody vandalizing it never crossed my mind," said Gareth Groves...

Now, as Groves ponders what to do with the remains of his $38,000 SUV, he has been the target of a number of people who have driven by the crime scene in his upscale neighborhood and glared at him in smug satisfaction...

Neighbor Lucille Liem, 37, who owns a Prius hybrid, said that a common sentiment in the neighborhood is that large vehicles are impractical and a strain on the Earth -- and Hummers in particular are a symbol of consumer excess... Liem added quickly that she does not condone violence...

Investigators said they are searching for the vandals but don't have many leads. Witnesses saw two men about six feet tall with bandanas or masks over their faces smash up the car about 3:30 a.m. Monday and then run off...

He bought the used 2005 vehicle a month ago from a dentist in Fairfax County..."I'm worried about what I do now," he said. "If I get it fixed, do I put it back in the same spot three weeks from now?"

The emissions are very low for a vehicle that size and he doesn’t have to worry about the environmental foot print of disposing of a massive lithium battery.

Can you bless us with your knowledge and wisdom and explain in detail what "massive lithium battery" you're referring to?

Take your time and, should a little digging embarrass you, feel free to pretend you never saw the question.

Agreed. Although I much prefer the notchback line of the convertibles to the ‘40s-”sedanette” look of the coupes.

I would only do something if I knew who did it, or was sure they deserved something so bad that even if I was wrong it would still count for something.

Watch "That 70's Show", and you'll see a station wagon.

It really is a shame that you can hardly buy a station wagon anymore. Those Roadmaster wagons were pretty big, but noting like the ones of the 60s and early 70s. Personally I’d be happy if they still made wagon versions of cars like the Camry, Accord, Impala, and so on. Did they still make the Taurus wagon (ugly though it was) until the end of the Taurus this year, I wonder?

You sure picked the right Freeper name.
747 emmissions are low too, for a vehicle that size...

Just saying.

In Indiana every day can be an “off road” experience. Not a swipe at Indiana, but the state does have the most unpassable roads that are still open to the public east of the Mississippi.

For a personal inspection of some of these, check out the “4x4” rallies at:

I love the enviro kooks as if fixing the car and getting new parts doesn’t just use more energy and natural resources
plus now he has to throw all the broken pieces into a landfill

hehehe

That we don’t know. We sure don’t need to import our delinquents. Got plenty with American accents already.

On principle, I refuse to live anywhere where someone can tell me what to do with my property that I paid my money for and that I personally went into debt for.

I’m sure it is, which just proves to me that fools live there.

Buy that sucker all day long for 80-150k tops depending ont he neighborhood here. Maybe hit 200s in some very limited neighborhoods... and if you go lower end can find that type of house for far less than 80.

No kidding.

I personally believe it was something they were using to pre-clean before painting. They were also doing construction on the BoK building nearby and that may have been the culprit.

It’s still being investigated. Video at this link...

I had to go to court recently to teach the cops what the law is for vehicles in one’s driveway. Hopefully they’ll not listen to my neighbor again.

Nickel for the batteries needs to be mined, smelted and mitigated in the waste stream. So yes, the Prius is higher net cost to the environment than a Hummer.

Don't be silly.
Lead must be mined, smelted and mitigated too.
Nickel, by the way is recycled too. And I haven't once seen a panic article about minute amounts of nickel coming out of smokestacks...

A little serious note: The Sudbury mines in Ontario, one of the top two nickel producers in the world, has been in operation since 1858. Please note that that is nearly 140 years before the first Prius was built.

The way some people carry on makes one wonder why we haven't had thousands of "nickel spill" scares in the last 140 years...

Just saying.

Liberalism is a religion. A very intolerant religion. A religion that persecutes non-believers.
That’s why liberals love jihadis so much- they think alike.

So do you get up in the person’s face and do this or do you do it from the safety of your car?

I seen her do it.
She covers her face with a mask and does it in the middle of the night.
