Vandals Batter D.C. Man's SUV, Slash Its Tires and Scratch In an Eco Note
On a narrow, leafy street in Northwest Washington, where Prius hybrid cars and Volvos are the norm, one man bought a flashy gray Hummer that was too massive to fit in his garage. So he parked the seven-foot-tall behemoth on the street in front of his house and smiled politely when his eco-friendly neighbors looked on in disapproval at his "dream car."
It lasted five days on the street before two masked men took a bat to every window, a knife to each 38-inch tire and scratched into the body: "FOR THE ENVIRON."
"The thought of somebody vandalizing it never crossed my mind," said Gareth Groves...
Now, as Groves ponders what to do with the remains of his $38,000 SUV, he has been the target of a number of people who have driven by the crime scene in his upscale neighborhood and glared at him in smug satisfaction...
Neighbor Lucille Liem, 37, who owns a Prius hybrid, said that a common sentiment in the neighborhood is that large vehicles are impractical and a strain on the Earth -- and Hummers in particular are a symbol of consumer excess... Liem added quickly that she does not condone violence...
Investigators said they are searching for the vandals but don't have many leads. Witnesses saw two men about six feet tall with bandanas or masks over their faces smash up the car about 3:30 a.m. Monday and then run off...
He bought the used 2005 vehicle a month ago from a dentist in Fairfax County..."I'm worried about what I do now," he said. "If I get it fixed, do I put it back in the same spot three weeks from now?"

What is the carbon footprint of the vandalism?

Hybrids are DEFINITLY NOT evironmentally friendly.
The battery is NOT 100% recyclable (like auto engines)
In addition these feel good dofuses don’t realize the 4-6 thousand dollar battery is FINANCED by the eeeeevil big auto finance company.

mean, what earthly good is an SUV that never goes off-road? If youre not gonna use the SUV for the reason God created it, buy a damn station wagon. All an SUV IS is a tall station wagon. And station wagons don't get any better milage than a SUV, so what's your real beef? I'm not buying the "posers" reason, fwiw.

I did not even consider the Porche. The VW looks better and costs less. Only women drive Cayennes.

But Dr Kenneth Boffard, a surgeon who runs a trauma unit, said he is extremely concerned.
"I don't think the average person on the street has any concept of the appalling damage that burns cause," Dr Boffard said. There are as many idiot doctors as there are idiots in the general population.
What damage is more appaling than seeing your family shot, raped and killed?
As for "innocents" being caught in the weapon --- don't approach a car at a stop light and pretend to have a gun. D'OH!

Yknow, while I would never key someones car, I have on occasion made loud remarks about posers who drive an SUV thats used neither for utility nor sport.

Last December, I left my (now ex) Wife. We have two Sons.
When I came to pick up my Sons for our, "Daddytime,", all I had was a little Jeep Wrangler. The car seat for my youngest Son barely fits in the back.
Through December and January, we got massive amounts of snow. They only plowed the main roads. There WERE no side streets. After the first major snow, there was four feet on these streets.
About every three to six years here in Denver, we get hit with insane blizzards.
I wish I had an SUV for this reason. Most here in Colorado have them for this purpose: Snow.

I’m with you. I remember the days when a former boss had four young children and three dogs (one a German Shepherd). One of his cars was a GMC Suburban SUV, and he needed it to haul his kids and all their little friends all over the place.

“FOR THE ENVIRON.”
Stupid lazy hippies. Couldn’t even finish spelling “environment” before they lost interest and went to smoke more dope and stink.

It's not a station wagon. It does however, have the extended rear window option. ;o)

A bunch of Classic Dodge enthusiasts were here in Tulsa recently and had a hugh car show. Nearby a hotel was painting and all the cars got covered in some sort of overspray. It literally “orange pealed” the paint on hundreds of classic cars.

I don't got $70k to spend on a carThe dealer will rape you for at least another $2500, but wait 2 years and when they come out with the 650 hp SS the used z06s will drop in price from the ionosphere down to merely in the stratasphere. One lady who occasionally parks here has a blue one whose plate reads HERZ06.

I don't know of but maybe one or two station wagons that would seat 8 adults even back in the day. However
This is a station wagon. Any car that comes with an option of a 360CI motor is not a 'teeny hatchback'
