CHP officers found the vehicle was reported stolen from Mexicali in an armed carjacking and was also being investigated by Mexican authorities, the release said. The FBI was contacted about the assault. The driver faces charges of reckless driving and possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as prosecution by the U.S. Attorney's Office for assault on a federal agent, illegal entry and human trafficking. The Mexican Consulate was notified and will be involved in the process, according to the release. They're just here to do the jobs American citizens won't do.

New Chebby Suburban. Business must be good.
Let’s hope the agent is sternly disciplined for his negligence. He could have dented the bumper with his body.

Why did the headline writer say “nearly?”

nearly assaulted? that's a weird statement. is that like when two planes come really close to eachother and they call it a "near miss"?
this just in: police work is dangerous.

Border Patrol Agent Nearly AssaultedNearly???? Attempting to run over a border agent is an assault, isn't it? Nearly Murdered, would have been accurate.

Border Patrol Agent Nearly Assaulted
I guess there is no law against "Nearly" Assaulting someone!
Judge: Did he hit you?
Defendant: He swung at me with a bat but I ducked.
Judge: So he took a swing at you with a bat and missed. What did you do after he missed?
Defendant: I kicked him in the b*lls!
Judge: So you actually caused the accused to suffer pain?
Defendant: Yes, he tried to hit me!
Judge: Ok. So you were "Nearly Assaulted" by the accused and in retaliation you "Assaulted" the Accused?
Defendant: Yes. Well, he was trying to hit me. He had a bat!
Judge: Charges dismissed! Bailiff arrest the defendant for assault against the accused!

“nearly assaulted”?
If somebody tries to run you down, you’ve been “assaulted”.
If somebody hits you, you’ve been “battered”.

Tomorrow's headline? "Mexican Consulate complains of harassment. DOJ asks Mexican travelers to testify.
Border Patrol agent could get 11 to 12 years in prison, says DOJ lawyer."
