Human beings make mistakes. Especially ones in matter of personal judgment. Yet there is a double standard. Democrats escape accountability for betraying marriage vows and committing adultery. Republicans get run out of town when its discovered they spent time visiting a brothel. Liberals are understanding of Villaraigosa. But conservatives - at least social conservatives, think that David Vitter is a tarnished man who needs to be punished for breaking his marriage vow. Never mind his solid conservative record! Force him out of office! Its not like he harmed any one else except himself and his family. All we do is give the truly depraved and corrupt an advantage in public life by adhering to the double standard.

I think the only people who want to see Vitter out of office are people who don’t live in his state, in other words, their opinion doesn’t really matter.

I find infuriating and amusing we'd give a pornographer scumbag like Larry Flynt a say in who represents Republicans. He's no paragon of morality. Why conservatives should cede to his blackmail is beyond me.

He's no paragon of morality.

According to him he is. It's all in the definition of "moral standards" Read Flynt's twisted defense of having sex with animals sometime.

He says he adheres strictly to his own moral standards and by that measure it's ok that he had sex with a chicken. You read that right, a chicken.

When you go by "moral guide lines" that you have created yourself, anything is ok as long as you are true to your beliefs and not hypocritical about it.

Sick sick sick.

If you bill yourself as a conservative you don’t engage in extramarital sex with prostitutes or anyone.....you dont even let yourself alone in the presence of another woman if you are in politics...and if you are sincere then in all your life.

It’s just simple logic. Vitter clearly has or has none.

I am not supporting Vitter and his lame excuse no matter where he is from..he is no friend of conservatives..he is a major hypcrite.

With all due respect, this how liberals reasoned when Billy Boy was caught w/ the intern. It’s a private matter, look at all the good he did, and so on.

Social Conservatives take marriage vows more seriously than the Liberals and these are the consequences when a conservative commits adultery.

We do not want to become Liberals and David Vitter is not a victim anymore than DoughBoy was when caught w/ the intern.

Of Course Liberals get a pass - THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT MARRIAGE - and the solution is not “if you can’t beat, join ‘em”.

I’m with you, if his wife can’t trust him, how the hell can his constituents?

"I think the only people who want to see Vitter out of office are people who don’t live in his state, in other words, their opinion doesn’t really matter."

As a Louisiana resident, I'm pissed off at Vitter and SERIOUSLY disappointed in him.

But I'd still rather have Vitter than Landrieux or God forbid, Senator Nagin. I had a nightmare that if Vitter resigned, Blanco would appoint herself to the Senate, and resign the governorship, allowing Mitch Landrieux to run as an incumbent this fall against Jindal...

When I think about the possibilities, I find it pretty easy to forgive and support Vitter. I still think it would have been funny if he responded to the press simply by saying, "You should put yourself on a diet of oysters and Tabasco and see just how horny you get."

His constituents are going to have the say. However, if people behaved themselves, and lived up to their professed standards, blackmail wouldn't be an issue...

Human beings make mistakes.

A 'mistake' is an error made unintentionally.

Are you seriously trying to tell me that Vitter 'mistakenly' patronized a brothel multiple times?

This isn't a 'mistake'. This is adultery.

I guess you have figured out that the proper way to deal with some other persons double standards is to adopt a few of your own.

And I'm sure your wife will think you just made a few 'mistakes' if she ever finds out you were banging whores.

Good luck with that.

Good plan Rush, and the rest of the boys.

Let’s adopt liberals values - the heck with marriage vows or fidelity of any kind.

Good character means nothing to us.

Let’s all be libertines.

This is what a cartel as in this corrupt “Two-Party Cartel” gives you as leaders. Yes, we do have good people that will run but the corrupt national parties snuff them out. Case in point, there is no better man running for president than Duncan Hunter. Look how he is shut out.

“Have you noticed when Democrats have sex outside of marriage, even with interns, it’s no big deal? In fact, it’s a resume enhancement!...”

This is a tremendously important point, and while he said it in jest, among the left, it is *the* critical factor in their hierarchy. That is, what most people call “immoral” or “unethical” behavior. Education and talent don’t matter, nor does skill or experience. Perversion matters.

That is, you cannot become an important figure in the left unless you are somehow ‘soiled.’ You will not be accepted as “one of us” by them, unless in some serious way you are tainted.

The left actually does not trust *anyone* who is not corrupt! They hate and fear them.

Look at the Clinton administration. Everyone in their inner circle was morally crippled. Dick Morris, the toe sucker, for example. But one after the other, unless they were deviant, perverted, or twisted in some way, they could not be a real friend to Bill and Hillary. They would remain an outsider.

And it’s not just in politics, either. I remember the example of a nobody talking head at a local TV station, who was ignored until he was caught drinking in a motel room with two underage girls. The local station immediately fired him for breaking the law in several ways, but he was picked up in just a day or two for a job at his network on the coast. This promotion probably earned him a more than $100,000 per year raise! Suddenly he was one of their “top” people, a big name at a major TV station.

He was a nobody, until he was a pervert. Then in the left, he was somebody important, a person to be admired and respected.

So look at the rising stars among the left, who they really are and why they are rising stars. In the media and entertainment left, the people who rise to the top will have sex with anybody, and go out of their way to prove how perverse they are. It is a badge of honor with them. But it must also be seen as shameful in some way, or else it isn’t as “good”.

Actually, it is not funny, it is horrifying, how their standards are so turned around that they hate and fear those who are not perverse or corrupt. Note that they often rationalize that *everyone* is deviant, just that “moral” people hide it better. When they look at “moral” people, they think they see true evil, because they can’t see any evil.

Rush Limbaugh talks at length about how the left persistently tries to “define deviancy down”. This, too, is part of their bizarre and unwholesome philosophy: that only when we embrace all sick perversions, and they are seen as normal, will perversion cease to exist.

And only then will those on the left be able to look in the mirror and not feel deep, burning shame at their own failings.

Don’t forget Newsom. He was doing his best friend’s wife. Would you ever trust anyone who would prey on his best friend’s wife? That kind of guy doesn’t have friends - just marks.

Can Rush name a Republican candidate from the last 30 years who hasn't campaigned on "family values"? Talk is cheap. Anyone who tries to score political points with talk of family values and can't stop himself from buying sex from whores is a hypocrite and is going to make the front page.

Nobody ever goes, "Omygawd! Barney Frank is gay?!" because Barney Frank doesn't get up in front of big groups of people and rail against the "evils of homosexuality" like Ted Haggard did. If a conservative can't practice what he preaches, what the h--- good is he?

Anytime Hustler Magazine and a Republican Senator’s name appear in the same sentence, it can’t be good.

And what, exactly, are some people doing here by either trying to deflect attention away from Vitter ("Oh look! Clinton did it!") or authoring feeble apologetics ("It was just a few whores! He said he was sorry!")

I used to thing that "defining deviancy down" was something that conservatives cared about, but after reading a few of these Vitter threads, I'm starting to wonder.
