Oh boy, here we go again. Is there anyone, ANYONE who is conservative enough for some people. Seems not. We eat our own it seems. What a waste of time.

The facts are that he is the most conservative candidate with a chance to win the nomination.

This sounds like something written in 1968 about Richard M. Nixon.

And how does that differ from out "reward" out for him now. We are just paying the contractors after the fact. I would hire Mossad members to get that piece of gutter slime, or some retired Pakistani/Iraqi secret police?

Ah, that variation on a theme, where the ideological purists throw out the "only my candidate is pure. Everyone should support my candidate of choice, and never you mind that little 'he's garnering less than one percent of the vote' detail."

Only *if* we could get the purists to at least get behind someone! ... fact is, the purist-basher-types (EV for example) have refused to name a single GOP candidate they support.

If they are against every single GOP frontrunner and for not a single GOP candidate, how are they different from the DUmmies on the 2008 race?

The difference is he wanted the letter of marquis instead of a declaration of war, we are using these tactics as just a small part in an overall war strategy. That is a big different than opposing the declaration of war in the first place. It just goes to show that Paul doesn't understand the nature of the enemy and would rather play semantic games than fight the enemy.

Fred Thompson’s record may appear to be “conservative,” but only by comparison with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, or Mitt Romney, and a Less-of-a-Big Government Republican is still a Big Government Republican.

Most people do not claim that Fred is some kind of conservative hero.

But unlike Rudy McRomney, he's a candidate most every conservative can vote for without selling out their principles.

I'm probably voting Duncan Hunter in the primary, but I'll be content to vote Thompson in the general.

You're confusing Fred with Rudy...

Even assuming Thompson isn't more pro-life than he was when he first ran for the Senate, he still has consistently opposed Roe vs. Wade. I have no doubt he supports judges that would overturn it.

That's all one can ask out of President -- the appointment of judges that would overturn Roe. The rest would be up to pro-lifers at the state level.

With Ghouliani or Hillary, there is no chance judges would be appointed that would overturn Roe.

We don't have a Reagan. But painting Thompson as one doesn't make it true. If the man IS one of us, he will seek our support, not the other way around. None of the candidates has Reagan's appeal and those who are small government conservatives are rejected by GOP voters because they're considered "unelectable." If we drop our principles just because we're afraid of Hillary, we'll most likely get her or a Republican President who is Hillary Lite. And we'll wind up hating ourselves for it.

I agree, but going after Thompson without giving him a chance to reach out is counterproductive. Thompson has not announced yet, but every move he's made indicates that he's going to seek out movement conservative support.

From his early opposition to the immigration bill, to his commentary on hot button grassroots issues like the Fairness Doctrine, his backing away from McCain-Feingold, his reaffirmation of his pro-life position, including opposition to embryonic stem cell funding, his hardline stance on Islamic terror and his pro-growth economic stances every move he has made is in line with the conservative agenda.

I'm sure Thompson is a lot better than Hillary-lite or Giuliani and right now anyone that can derail Rudy is looking good to me.

Wrong. That's not the only thing that is needed. We need an Executive who will remember his sworn oath, and then act to uphold it. Last time I checked, the Fourteenth Amendment was the most fundamental part of what they swear to protect.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Too bad so many seem to have excised it from their copies...

Guys, it's "letters of marque and reprisal." See Article I, Section 8, paragraph 11 of the U.S. Constitution.

A "marquis" (English spelling marquess) is a member of the nobility who ranks below a duke and above an earl.
