"Fred Thompson’s record may appear to be “conservative,” but only by comparison with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, or Mitt Romney..."

...which makes him more of a conservative than any of the "official" anointed ones of the GOP.

You have raised some interesting points for consideration, though.

You and Airborne have both went to the heart of the matter and you both have been impressive. Hunter is fortunate to have two such supporters. I am almost sure someone wrote a few posts before this one that the Fred Supporters had made the most rational argument. Rational argumentation, is indeed relative, if so, because I did not see it as such. I will defend to the end, however, his right to be wrong. :) Hunter supporters spend too much time on Fred, anyway, in my humble opinion. Honestly, I like the guy, but I just don’t think he has anything to offer. I don’t think he is waiting to announce because he is a brilliant strategist and tactician. I think it is as simple as he just doesn’t have anything to offer and once he joins the fight, the shine of ignorance is going to wear off rather quickly.

“You mean that pork barrel spending guy in the house that’s ranked #411 out of 435 for congressional attendance?”

Oh wow, I didn’t know that about Hunters attendance, thats bad, I mean we on the right tore into John Kerry and John Edwards about their attendance, we can’t have a guy on our side with bad attendance this time around. And they want to say that Fred is lazy?

“Thompson was chosen by us.”

See post #1014 Check out the history of the CFR. They’ve had a hand in nearly every selection of president for over 70 yrs.

You might *think* you’re choosing a candidate but,........

Thanks for the Ping.

In my humble opinion, the biggest concern we have with the slate of GOP Presidential Candidates is, "Who is the best, most original, truly authentic leader in the crowd?"

I am so tired of hearing, "I am the most Reagan-like candidate because..." I don't want to know who is going to be the most like Reagan. I want to know who is going to set the next trend for GOP leaders! Reagan was an original and he blazed a wonderful path for others to follow. However, we don't need another Reagan follower. What we need is the next PATH BLAZING LEADER.

Originality is the key, not emulation. Being Reaganesque is not going to win anyone the GOP nomination. Being Thompsonesque or Romneyesque or Gingrichesque is what we should be looking for! Someone has got to step outside of the box and take command of this campaign. Only then will we all see that he/she is in fact the right person for the job.

I’m not sure I like this one toe in mentality.

If your runnin, if you have a message, If your the best of the conservative candidates.......well take the plunge.

It’s almost like he’s tryin to see how the field shapes up before committing.

Besides, If FT is in fact part of a globalist organization, I’d rather put my money on Duncan Hunter.

We’ll see. Got a long way to go.

I didn't know that, either. That's shameful. The voters hired him to do a job, he ought to do it.

I haven't heard anything but I know it's happened to two other people. Scary!

I don’t know exactly what the attendance ranking measured. However, the fact that Rep. Hunter was a committee chairman and had many duties on his committee may well have caused him to miss many house votes. However, if you look at all the legislation that he has sponsored and the times that he has fought the good fight for conservative issues, it is very clear that he is a hardworking guy. He simply may have found better ways to work for his constituents than attending every vote on naming post offices in Tallahassie or Calamazoo.

Informative article. I’m glad to see that on this site that the contributors bother to do their research. I don’t agree with everything.

However, I smiled greatly when I saw these words.....

LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATIONS

Oh please, will everyone follow the money on this one. I did. Gravel I suspect did. (please no comment about Mr. Alaskaia)

Courtney Love, isn’t going there for you. That pit is just too deep. No crass jokes on that last comment, please.

“Now it’s a whole new ballgame.”

Yes it is! Couldn’t we just get rid of Congress and do everything online? Yeah, I know. That would be something of a *mob* rule scenerio but, it beats what Congress has become.

With all the talk about Mitt being Mormon, is Fred a Christian? I think that is a fair question. We know that Rudy is a Catholic in name only. This next election is going to be real interesting. I haven’t heard anything about McCain’s religon. As a conservative I don’t feel comfortable electing a secular person, if we want that there are plenty in the Democratic Party, despite some of their claims to the contrary. As a conservative republican I think it is the only option to elect someone with beliefs rooted in Christianity. I don’t think being in “name only” is an option either.

Thanks for the ping, this sure is interesting. I would like to know more about Fred, I know when he talks, he sure is likeable, without even knowing anything about him, He appeals to conservatives just the way he presents himself, he comes across as a very genuine person. That’s my first impression.

Well, at least the author of this article admits the one thing that is going to get me to vote FOR Fred Thompson at this point...

Fred Thompson’s record may appear to be “conservative,” but only by comparison with Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, or Mitt Romney

We have to be careful about how much of this slamming of every single candidate is coming from the Democratic strategy. Personally, Democrats or not, I will puke if Rudy wins the primaries, but I will still hold my nose and vote for him in the general election. There is no way I will in anyway be responsible for Hillary winning the election. Because that would be just as evil as voting for her.

Anyone give any background about conservative HQ?

It MAY be like the FAKE pro-gun organizations run by gun-grabbing former clintonites, OR, more sinisterly...

it COULD be a smear campaign against Fred by jack-booted thug, RINO-rudy's ghouls.
