Why Britain and not the U.S.?

By Matthew Schofield McClatchy Newspapers

LONDON — From the moment that emergency workers spotted the bomb-laden car a week ago in London's crowded West End, it was clear that for the fourth straight year — and third straight summer — this city was being readied for a major terrorist attack.

Yet England isn't the Great Satan to al-Qaida extremists. Terrorism experts all agree that for al-Qaida operatives and sympathizers, the preferred villain is the United States.

So why do attacks keep happening here? And why, since the horror of Sept. 11, has America avoided another assault?

I read this entire article and not one mention of thanks to President Bush. Totally disgusting. He is the one man who has spent his entire presidency working on the war on terror. He needs to get his butt in gear with the border situation or it will all mean the wot was pointless.

Disagree. Your logic plays into the trap of the liberal media mindset: Poor oppressed muslims, what else can they do but bomb and kill?

And when was the last Irish Catholic bombing in the UK?

Ha.

I like his character on TV currently too. I don’t remember the name of the show. I’ve only seen it once. He plays a lawyer with some conservative leanings.

Six hours farther.

By car, or by train?

I certainly believe in using the “W” word, and also the “T” word against protesters. He did not ask for a DOW unfortunately, shame.

The Muslims also know that the next time there is another hit, unlike 9/11, they know that THERE WILL BE an outright angry backlash, complete with violent revenge attacks to what the Muslims hold dear.

Plus they know another major attack like 9/11 or worse will create a true angry violent backlash.

the mistakes this administration has made as far as winning the war of words blows my mind

Mine too. It's easy to second-guess the military/administrative errors in Iraq, but that's just hindsight. Bush's lamebrain approach to the "war of words" as you correctly put it, has evoked howls of frustration and protest, on this board and elsewhere, as it has unfolded--as each distortion and lie was allowed to enter the conventional wisdom uncontested.

Anyone wishing to analyze the phenomenon of "Bush-fatigue" could start by reviewing the history of the pathetically impotent handling of the phoney baloney TANG/"Rather-gate affair." FR heroes and bloggers literally saved this bozo's election that time. Then one could follow up with the unspeakably distorted "16 words" SOTU pseudo-controversy. And on. And on.

Bush may have been thinking he would be vindicated by history, but the politics of the present demands a defense and counterattack. For this battle, Bush really has been A-F*ing-WOL.

I think your right . We are so busy with the southern border, we forgot about the easier to cross northern border. it is mostly wilderness and only has a few agents covering 5000 miles . Plus Canada is very muslim friendly and sympathetic .

Or if my military strategy were implemented ...

Why are the attacks happening in Europe rather than here in the U.S.A.? Muslims don’t like their victims to fight back. Europeans aren’t as aggressive or armed to the teeth with firearms as the average U.S. citizen.

It frustrates me to no end. I’m just a restauranteur, but the mistakes this administration has made as far as winning the war of words blows my mind. I honestly don’t think I flatter myself to think that I could have done better, and considering my limited abilities, that is sad indeed.

For some reason, Republicans in office never ever ever ever seem to grasp the fact that the MSM hate their guts and will always hate their guts no matter how nice the Republican is to them, and no matter how brightly the aforementioned MSMers smile during the interview. Republicans in power always seem to suffer from the delusion that they can win the press over and thus get fair reporting. It's amazing.

I think the time for radical action regarding the MSM came a long time ago. 40 years or so. A strong conservative president should announce at his first press conference that he's booting every single one of them out of the White House. Back up his claim of bias with empirical proof and post it online for all to see. Explain to the MSM that all they have to do if they want back in is to REPORT the news in an evenhanded manner. Take them on in crystal clear terms and distribute the heck out of that proof of bias. After all, enough empirical evidence of liberal bias surely exists.

The Republicans remind me of the President in the movie Independence Day. He asks the alien “What do you want us to do?” The alien replies “Die.”

Republican politicians always seem to be looking at the MSM and the Left for the answer to the question “what do I have to do to get your approval?” The answer is “Die.”

We are the number one target - the Muzzies are working to isolate us from our allies. Once everybody else is indifferent (”Americans are just getting what the deserve.”) or opposed (Stop stirring the Muzzies up, you American thugs!”) to us, it will be our turn.

Add that to internal enemies like the Democrats, RINOs and the MSM, and it ain’t gonna be pretty.

Well, Brown has not pulled any British troops out of Iraq or Afghanistan and has stated that the UK will not be intimidated or dictated to by terrorists. The UK is not Spain. Britain has been dealing with terrorists for decades. Islamic fundamentalists are just the latest bunch of thugs who will fail like all the others.

So far, you’re right.

But more than half this war is going to be waged in the arena of public opinion.

Look how a minority of the hardcore, Leftist anti-war crowd, with their support from Big Protest and all its communist affiliates, has swayed opinion (and the last midterm elections) in this country.

My concern is that we need to drop the Politically Correct kid gloves and start slapping the enemy around verbally in public statements (as Churchill was so eloquent at) as well as militarily.
