Do we get to see an updated picture of Kennedy, Graham, Martinez, and Lott smiling and gloating and back-patting?

I heard him on the Sean Hannity show last night, and he is just a classic example of why Congress approval rating is down the gutter, such arrogance!

I am having a hard time to figure out who is more pathetic - Harry Reid or Paris Hilton.

"That's hot"

I agree. He was whining like some spoiled little elitist brat. Between that and his equivocation, he seemed more Democrat than ‘Pubbie.

Thanks for the roll call.

My Republican senator voted for cloture; my Democrat senator voted against. (shaking head)

Something struck me as I listened to the pros and cons leading up to Thursday cloture vote.

Of late there has been a fair amount of comment in FR about how 'Senator' was intended to be an appointed office. Two Senators per state to be named to represent state interests while Representatives were to be elected to represent citizen's interests based on population. Elected Senators is a fairly recent happenstance - generally felt (here) to be an improper expansion of the popular (mob) influence that the framers openly worried about.

The intent was to have one body reflect the masses while a more deliberative body reflected on issues apart from ground level pressures. It also intended that small/big, populated/rural, industrial/agricultural states would not be over or under represented at federal level. A good plan.

What strikes me is that this immigration 'compromise' was in fact a power play defined by secrecy, arm twisting, and painfully skewed maneuvering.

Right up to the point where they had to concede that a huge majority of the American people must hate their grand compromise - It reflected precisely the process the framers must have expected of the Senate.

A self defined group within a limited, even, number of agents met together and built a bill that in their stated opinion best reflected what would be best for the country. They then attempted by persuasion and by procedural means to force the rest of the body to accept the deal on similar grounds - "it's not perfect, it's not what the people want, it's the only deal we are going to get".

Other facts, such as the obvious lies, refusal to even discuss the embarassing details, and long history of failing to follow up with what was being promised, aside; that is precisely how I'd expect the original Senate to operate.

The only thing that stopped (if it has stopped) amnesty for 20 million invaders was the voice of the people. People who were not originally intended to be able to influence the Senate.

Meanwhile, as they film the sequel, states can keep on getting tough, as they have started to do in some of them. A national law would have put the kibosh on that.

Yea! Be sure to call/write the ones who turned the tide and thank them.

“...who just don’t know or understand the world...”

These elitist need to be informed. It’s precisly because we do understand the world!!!

Let’s see:
Government hires many, many illegals
Candidates recieve money from corporations who hire even more.
Dems can count on more votes by promises of a “place at the trough.”
Wages for the rest of us can be driven down, propping up millions of bottom lines.
Increases in population may result in some states getting even more representative in congress.
Any little shortfall in funds to support these ilegals can be fixed by prinitng even more money/and,or, taxing the hell out of us ignorant RUBES.

Does anyone know if Corker switched to YES after voting NO?

He did not. He has been a consistent NO vote on cloture. Gave a short speech on the Senate floor about how he has voted against cloture three times and intended to do so again.

Fantastic news, and unexpected as well which only makes it better. But I want to know the names of every Pub Senator who voted for cloture so I can send them a letter congratulating them for their generous display of bipartisanship by voting to allow 20 million new Democrat immigrants to become voting citizens.

As far as the Democrat pols are concerned, that's by far the most important reason they wanted amnesty and the entire disastrous bill passed. They know very well that the vast majority of poor Hispanics will vote for Democrats and more socialism once they're given the vote. That says a lot about their "love" for their country, they would gladly sacrifice it's security and the quality of life of it's citizens if it means more power for them over our lives and property.
