Mayor Michael Bloonberg has announced that he is leaving the Republican Party, and will continue his Mayoralty as an Independent.
“Leftist”, “pro-nanny government” Bloomberg would get most of his votes from leftist voters, not from conservative voters! I don’t get this ongoing idea that Bloomberg would end up taking away more votes from the final GOP candidate for President instead of taking away more votes from the final Democratic candidate for President.
This whole 2008 race reminds me of the California recall election. It’s a free-for-all. The media guys love it because all these yoyos have to buy media spots. This is the strangest presidential election in a long time, and the frenzy hasn’t even started yet.
Let’s see this guy get on the ballot in all 50 states with no party apparatus behind him. In some states, it’s darn near impossible as Ralph Nader found out.
I really don't think he will be another Ross Perot, if anything he will draw democrat votes from the dem candidate. Covervatives don't want him that is why he is leaving the party, he knows there is no way in he** that he would win the primary. The only republican votes he might get are the ones from NYC. This is actually a good think for conservatives. Let the dems vote for this turkey, we won't.
King... what thread is your #27 post? Link it.
Depends on his position on the ticket and his running mate. McCain/Bloomberg is a big problem for us. Giuliani/Bloomberg is a big problem for us. Bloomberg/Lieberman is not.
"I didn't know that..."
Exactly. No loss here.
I think you are basically right. Blooomberg’s availablity further erodes Rudy’s electability argument and enhances Fred Thompson’s electability. If Bloomberg does run, he will take 3 votes from Hillary for every one he takes from Thompson. He will not threaten Fred in any Red States but, if he catches on, he will destroy Hillary in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey and probably a half dozen other blue states that she cannot afford to lose.
If Rudy were the nominee, Bloomberg (along with an inevitable social conservative third party candidate) would sink him for sure
That said, Bloomberg is a very unappealing candidate who will likely have little impact.
We'll have to fight back. Maybe Dennis Kucinich is available.
You didn’t exactly substantiate why you believe that.
All I see are Democrats that will vote dem no matter what staying dem. Every party has a core that votes no matter what. Elitist rich white liberals that detest ties to the great unwashed in both parties choosing Bloomberg. Conservatives staying home.
And everyone else relunctantly voting Rudy.
I think that leaves Hill with the low to mid ‘40’s. Reps with high thrities to low 40’s and bloomberg swiping the rest.
the only way I can see a different dynamic is if conservatives vote for him, and I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Also, i doubt rudy is the nominee unless fred self destructs. And Hill I still think is dependent on whether Gore or another new person runs.
Gun grabbing Liberal putz.
Sky, wadr, he was buying back guns from criminals. Those are the guys we DON’T want to have guns.
Do you think soccer moms, or sportsmen, or the average guy who owns a gun to protect his home is selling his gun for a hundred bucks?
Nah. Most of those who sold their guns to Bloomy for $100 are more apt to use the gun to rob you of a twenty dollar bill before they shoot you. It was a good plan, imo, the only good idea he had.
Though i will admit his business background made him fiscally efficient. It was a sight to behold when he raised RE taxes 30% or so, (in my case it cost me $1200), and then gave us a whopping $400 rebate!
actually i think he’ll take more dim votes then republican....did anybody ever think this bozo was a Republican!
Not if his advertising is 100% anti-republican, as Perot's was.
I wouldn’t put any money on that. He’s more likely to siphon off RAT votes.
If we have a strong candidate (Thompson) and Rudy splits the NYC vote with Hillary, it could be enough to turn NY red.
More like Shirley Chisum. This guy can’t even get the votes John Anderson did.
Hillary is a shrill bitch. Bloomberg is a whiny little wuss who can't hold a candle to Rudy, but will steal votes from Hillary.
And, whatever else he represents, Rudy is still seen as a hero -- not only for his behavior on and following 9/11, but also for the fact that he can legitimately say that he cleaned up New York City from its previous identity as a haven for thugs and thieves.
I'm conservative -- and given a choice between those three, I would vote for Rudy in a heartbeat. As would most conservatives: the alternatives are too hideous to contemplate.
Again, though -- Rudy's not really in the game. It's a theoretical discussion only.
Hillary is likeable to very few. She has very high negatives. Bloomy will hurt Hillary more than the Republican.
That’s probably true. I hadn’t considered that aspect of it.
